I pretty much fell in love with legolas’ family so of course I had to try sketching them! I’ve always head cannoned that elves don’t actually have pupils, they just have spots of color that zoom down to pin points when they’re sleeping. Your lovely writing made me headcanon that the votes ended up inheriting kind of wavy wild hair from their mother.

ME REACTING: HOLY HECK THIS IS AMAZING!! I love your style, how flowing and graceful and art-nouveau-y and elvish your lines are! I can see the personalities just shining out of each of them, and you’ve chosen their outfits SO perfectly (oh Laerophen, you reserved and high-collared beanpole you!!!) – I love enigmatic, stately Thranduil, and Laindawar’s armour and his challenging expression, and ofc Legolas isn’t paying attention, but is watching the squirrels chasing each other in the trees…!

Dear lord, I really, really like your Discworld/lotr fic. I’m sure you’ve got lots of other things to do but I’m curious if you’d ever consider picking it back up again. Hey, you probably get a lot of messages but! I just wanted to stop by and say that I love literally all of your stories. Also, I’ve noticed that fem!Narvi is super popular on AO3 (significantly more than other characters), and so I was wondering if you knew where that came from? Did it originate with you?

I am not sure if I am the one that started it. Perhaps we came up with the concept at different times? After all, it’s a kickass idea, making Narvi a lady 🙂

Hey Nonnie, I’m all right physically, but emotionally I’ve been better. 

Sorry for the long dramatic silence, everyone. I am now finished with work for the year, which is great. I can work on a bit of self-care at last, then on the upcoming holidays, and then begin preparing for the new bubba. 

I’m at 27 weeks now. Struggling with the heat, some pretty nasty pre-partum depression, exhaustion, etc. This Dwarfling is bigger than my first, and MUCH stronger, and looooves to kick me awake at night. I am just. very tired, all the time. Dealing with family stuff and my energetic, curious, amazing lil toddler is honestly about all my body is allowing me to accomplish.

I don’t want to sound self-pitying or like a big drama-queen whiner – I’m managing, and I’m lucky: I have no major pregnancy complications, my baby is healthy and growing well, I have a house and food and stuff. I’m just very, very tired.

Why isn’t Gimizh allowed to sing Gimli’s Ered Luin Mining Song? Is there some metaphor I’m not getting?

It’s implied that there are more verses to the song… and some of them are not safe-for-kids. Gimris is trying to limit-set Gimizh’s natural interest in such stuff 

(she is not succeeding, bc some things are universal when it comes to pre-teens – and a fascination with naughty words is pretty high on that list.)

(ALSO – consider that Gimli wrote it when he was basically a teenager himself. This means he was that kid who makes up dirty little songs to make his friends laugh)

in every fandom there is that 1 fic that goes above and beyond and ruins reading for you cause nothing will ever measure up to that 1 fic’s absolute shining glory. Sansukh is that fic in the LOTR/Hobbit fandom.

I’m so glad you enjoy Sansukh, and I’m thrilled that it’s made such an impression on you! But I gotta gently disagree with the ‘1 fic’ thing, bc there are always LOADS. Every fandom i’ve been in is the same – it isn’t just one fic, there are a whole boatload of works that make you stagger and reel with how inhumanly talented everybody is, how did they think of this perfect au setting, that incredible bit of dialogue, characterisation so perfect that it is uncanny, that stupendous jawdropping climax…!?!

There are INCREDIBLE fics out there in the LOTR fandom, I can name 20 without even thinking hard about it, that are just. game-changingly awesome. 

This is an old fandom, too, and it’ll continue after all the current folks have meandered on elsewhere. There are fics yet to be written that will kick the shit out of Sansukh, and I can’t WAIT to read them!
