hello! i’m the anon who’s writing an essay about queerness in lord of the rings… so far it’s about romantic friendships, homosocial relationships structures, and what queerness means in a world where races are arguably coded (like dwarrows are coded to be “masculine” and elves are coded to be “feminine”). anyways, it’s due tomorrow and i’m pulling an all-nighter to finish it, so please wish me luck!

hey hey hello!!! been reading along with Sansukh for about 9 months now and finally womaned up to tell you how much i love it!! it is so good it’s on a different plane than the rest of us (no seriously – SO good). i finally decided to drop a note to tell you how fucking much i loved the talk between Thráin,Kíli and Hrera in Ch42. but i loved it. Hrera muttering about the complete mess the Vala created with all those seperated lovers? ive never been more delighted. honestly. i love her. SO MUCH

So many feels! ARAGORN REMEMBERED BOROMIR’S PROMISE OF PENNANTS!! Pippin + Glorfindel = headaches. Dain understanding Hrera better than Balin? Priceless. Oh my heart. Breaking along with the fellowship. You. Left. It. On. A. Cliffhanger. This will either go very badly, or very silly.

Eeeee so thrilled you liked the way I took the canon sections and twisted them! The Frodo and Arwen meeting has always struck me as a bit too loose, so I pulled it tighter, and the Eomer-enters-as-King moment has always felt too pat. I mean, the guy was 3rd Marshall of the Riddermark – Theodred was the one groomed for the crown, not Eomer. So, I made it more about him going ‘WHOA THIS IS REALLY. REALLY OVERWHELMING.’ – and then the Gimli scene is his escape from that, heh! (ALSO GIMLI YOU SMOOTHIE. ‘My heart is given to the morning’ YOU SMOOTH SMOOTH BASTARD.)

YEP, THAT’S RIGHT. BOROMIR’S ‘WHITE TOWER OF ECTHELION’ SPEECH. I WENT THERE. I REFERENCED IT.

I’m going to (sort of) echo another commentator: as a Jewish person, the parallels with dwarves are so, so, so obvious, and it does bother me sometimes–I try not to let it too much, but it does–when fanfic authors don’t pick up on that. (Everyone’s interpretation is valid right? But when they don’t even notice, I’m sort of like, hello? how do you seriously not see this?) So I was really glad you did, and that you dealt with it so well. It’s just another thing I love about Sansûkh.

I’ve been having a difficult few days, I’ve been having some family problems and just generally feeling lousy, but I wanted to thank you for Sansukh, Politically Sensitive, Midwinter, Small Ones…just a lot of your fics, really. They’re so well written and just…happy (despite the angst-ridden bits of Sansuk) that it’s helping the time pass a little quicker and helping me keep from dwelling.

I am so so sorry to hear that things have been so tough for you, Nonnie. I’m stunned and so grateful that my blatherings have helped (omg!! SMALL ONES ahhh my goodness…!). I want you to know that if you need an escape or someone to talk to, you are welcome to come off anon and chat to me. No pressure or expectation though.
