Off the wall question that I woke up thinking about bc I’m rereading sansukh to catch up: if a dwarf were to drop something while in the star pool what would happen? Would it ‘float’ out or would it be lost on Arda but not visible to the living?

They’d have to pass through not one, but TWO metaphysical barriers. There’s the wall between the living and the dead, of course. But there’s also the mists between Aman and Middle-Earth that separate the Blessed Realm from the ‘real world’ and keep it apart and inaccessible.

Hell, it’s hard enough for the spirits of the dead dwarves to make it there!

This is just an silly/odd idea, but I like to think that if a dwarf deliberately dropped something into Gimlin-zaram (say, a hammer, or a pen?), it would immediately sink without trace beneath the glowing water. No other change or sign to show its passing.

The next time that dwarf saw Mahal, that hammer or pen would be in His great hand, and he would give off a slight air of mild annoyance. He would give it back with pointedly deliberate movements.  

“Please refrain from littering, my child. Please use the bins provided.”

What does your username mean? Tbh, I’ve wondered this for a while but you are really under no obligation to answer if it’s like a personal thing I just wanna know if it’s like a reference to something or several small words put together for a meaning

Nah, it’s not a secret! ‘determamfidd’ is a mishmash word, made up of bits and pieces of others. One bit is a re-spelling of my real name, another is the nickname my sister gave me when we were small, and all of it is fitted into the word ‘determination’. 

It’s a quality I think I need more of, and I want to encourage it in myself. 

But mostly folks just call me ‘Dets’ – and I like it just as much as my usual name now!

OH CRIPES ANON hey so don’t bother with things like that, don’t ‘cheat the system’ (sorta? is that a thing?) so that it’s not a reflection of the number of folks who thought it was worth reading. I don’t think that it would be very fair!

seriously, it went like this: Pop said HOLY SHIT OMG SANSUKH’S SO CLOSE TO 9K KUDOS yesterday and I said FUCK I KNOW AHHHHH and then I said (in a moment of sheer madness) that i would totally do a dance to Iron Hills for Me if it ever really hit 10K. 

(and they said that those national character dance exams would never come in handy *mad laughter* the fools!!)

so don’t bother doing anything different, just pass the word out if you’d like. And if it ever really does get up to that amount of kudos, then I shall do my thing! 

Dets, I finally made it to the master post and just spent the last hour crying over the music. The sheer emotion. Iron Hills Soldier song!! And the Cradle song! I’m emotionally wiped. It’s just like I went back and reread Sansûkh with the music all playing in appropriate places.

Aaaaaaah I am so glad! SERIOUSLY so so glad – it’s my passion, music, and my livelihood, and so the pressure i put on myself when it comes to it is probably a bit too much but yeah, I am so SO GLAD you enjoyed it and that you emotionally connected with it!
