I always see this as shire retirement au where Gandalf is proposing Thorin joins him on another quest like an orc raid or smth and Bilbo instantly goes into protective mode “N-No no no NO if you think for one second that I’m letting him out of my sight ever again you are sadly mistaken!”
I don’t even think he’d be as polite as that tbh probably more like “If you take him away from me I will shove sting up your ass.”
during a stream, people prompted me to draw @hildyj‘s Oak and Mistletoe (To See,) and as always, it’s super hard to choose a scene because everything hildy writes is gorgeous and makes my belly flutter, but here’s some doodly kissing 😉
OK so I don’t actually use Tumblr, but I needed to comment here so I made an account…. I was lying in bed flipping through your post history looking for awesome L/G arts when suddenly one of the Bagginshield posts hit me hard in the feels. I want to thank you because thanks to all the stuff I saw there today, I just realized this incredible parallel between Bilbo and Thorin: the Ring’s effects are so similar to dragon sickness, maybe that is how Bilbo became one of only two people who were ever able to give up the Ring. He knew first-hand what mindless obsession with an accursed treasure can do to you and those you love. I swore I wasn’t going to turn to the Bagginshield side of the Force and here I go anyway… you are very persuasive! 😉
I have to post this in order to answer, I’m afraid, bc your askbox is closed and you have submitted this rather than sending an ask! So I hope you do not mind, @lotrtafkab but I didn’t want you to feel like I was ignoring you!
Yeah! The creeping, insidious nature of obsession and how twisted and cruel and malignant it can be – that’s been commented on quite a bit in Hobbit fic when it comes to the dragon-sickness and/or the Ring… and not just by me, but by LOTS of people! I’m very happy you like the way I approached it 🙂 Thank you!
one day, he thinks, but he never begins work on them… just sketches designs on the back of scraps of paper. Because how could such a thing ever be achieved?
Sorry, I totally had to. Dwarven anatomy is just adorable and Bilbo is quite curious about Thorin’s ears. I like to imagine that dwarven ears are pretty sensitive and ticklish, but this is like an embarrassing secret among Dwarves because they’re supposed to be fierce warriors ♥
Send me prompts for these tiny babies, I need to draw them more often.
Thorin Oakenshield slowly wakes to the sounds of Bilbo and his nephews softly talking, colder and heavier than he has ever been in his life, but before he can get a word out Bilbo is punching him square on the nose. Quite rightly, as it turns out, because he’s been dead for a week and has just sat up in his tomb with no warning whatsoever.
Following the aftermath of the Battle of the Five Armies where Thorin must fight with his own guilt and mind over his choices and what they mean and meant, where he must decide whether or not to rule, and how to live with himself after dying. Focusing on many different characters and relationships, as well as building on the lore of Erebor and Middle Earth. A story about coming home.
