The new Watch trainees are an odd bunch. There’s a Dwarf, of course, but that’s practically routine in Ankh-Morpork these days. There’s a couple of Men, one of whom has a shiny shiny sword. There’s a bunch of Hobbits, new to the city, one of whom is a little quiet and subdued. There’s even a Wizard (thanks to Vetinari’s damned blasted equal-employment quotias). And lastly there’s a suspiciously pointy bloke who swears he’s not an Elf, even if he sings just a little too much…
When one of Gimli’s cousins seems to miraculously return from the dead only to report another missing person, a chain of events is set in motion that leads to this bunch of mismatched raw recruits stumbling into a new, unpleasant and dangerous sort of investigation…

I have to give first lines of 10 of my fics. Okie doke! I do get a little over-enthusiastic at times, and so you get an opening paragraph instead 🙂 Links after each quote!
When Legolas returned to Eryn Lasgalen, he was much changed. His father embraced him gladly, and then pulled back to study his face. His eyes were deeper, and filled with the joy and sorrow and yearning of the Eldar who have walked too closely to mortality.
The first time Gimli sets eyes upon the Elf, he is less than impressed. He looks exactly like the rest of them: tall, pale and inscrutable. Not a whisker on his chin nor a line on his face. He is blank, a white unwritten canvas, with no distinguishing features or marks upon him to denote a personality at all.
So strange. And. Yeah, Bruce can’t quite get his head around it yet. Something actually affected the Hulk, scared him, scared him so badly he hid inside, so deep and dark inside their head that Bruce can hardly feel his usual presence. God, the strangeness of it all. He’d almost become used to being invulnerable, invincible.
Aaaaand last of all, a sneak-peek of the opening of the next chapter of the behemoth itself…
10. Ori stared at the massive sheet of parchment. It was covered
in crossings-out, and small notes were scattered all through the margins in an
assortment of different hands. He could just make out the blocky script of Thrór, the cramped chicken-scratch
that was Óin, and Frís’ graceful loops. All in all, it was an unrecognisable, unreadable
mess. A hot, sinking feeling began somewhere in his belly.

Candid by norterntrash Modern AU Bagginshield with photographer Bilbo and accidental model Thorin. The rom-com AU you need. Pain free and teeth-rottingly sweet. Quite possibly my favourite fanfic of all time.
Nothing Gold Can Stay by perkynurples Modern Royalty AU Bagginshield with Bilbo as an over-glorified nanny and Thorin as the King of an isolated European monarch. I know, everybody always recs this and you all most likely have already read it. But if you haven’t, go do it now. There is a reason why it’s so popular.
Sansûkh by determamfidd Canon compliant Bagginshield and Gigolas that makes you forget what happened in the books or the movies, and what was written by dets. Full of epicness. And so many dwarves. I didn’t want to rec WIP’s, but the list of my favourite fanfics wouldn’t be complete without Sansûkh.
Mr. Baggins Builds His Dream House by myrtlebroadbelt Bungo/Belladonna Sweet and funny story of how Bag End was built. I don’t often read anything about Bungo and Belladonna, but this one? Perfection. All the characters, and all the interactions are on spot.
Oak and Mistletoe by HildyJ AU Bagginshield where Thorin suffers from a strange sickness, and is sent to the Shire to be healed by Bilbo. This fic describes both Bilbo and Thorin falling in love so beautifully, I can’t even comprehend it. This story haunted me for days after reading it, it’s just so beautiful and brilliant.
Prayers to Broken Stone by Avelera Bagginshield with a bit more literal dragon sickness. Another fic that haunted me for a long time after reading it. I don’t think I even have words to describe this fic? It’s just… One of a kind. Beautiful and dark and just so, so perfect.
Something Blue by Lapin Bagginshield with consort Bilbo and a marriage of convenience that truly isn’t a marriage of only convenience. Thorin and Bilbo being pining dorks, dwarven politics, and a garden in a mountain. What else do you need? The answer is nothing, This fic is the answer to your botfa pain.
Touch by Thorinsmut This is the first Nwalin fic I ever read. And to this day, it’s still my favourite. For this fic, I really don’t have any words. Nori is so perfectly written in it, and Dwalin’s character is so good too. God, I love this fic.

Now You’re a Man by Gorgeous Nerd Supernatural fic, no pairing. Canon compliant Trans!Dean is my weakness, and this fic is brilliant.
How many slams in an old screen door? by dandelioness Supernatural fic, Destiel. Modern AU with asexual Castiel and university theatre group in the middle of the production of Les Mis. Cute, cute and brilliant.
Sun ‘Verse by enigmaticblue Supernatural fic, Destiel. AU where it was already too late when Dean stops Lucifer. Post-apocalyptic dadstiel with perfect family dynamics. Over 180k words of perfection.
El Tango de Amor by literaryoblivion Supernatural fic, Destiel. Modern AU with dancing. I don’t even know how many times I’ve read this one anymore. And I’m still always up for a re-read.
Stop, Swing by frogy HSM fic, Chyan. Don’t think I can rec my fave fics without reccing some high school musical as well. This body swap fic is the one that makes HSM2 make even more sense. Just. Perfection.
Wisteria by butterflychansan SNK fic, Jeanmarco. I’m not reading Attack on Titan fics very often anymore, but this series? I still think of it some days. Almost too good to be true. And very heartbreaking.
Meet-Cute AU’s by 74days MCU fics, Stucky. What it says in the title of the series. Collection of the most perfect AU oneshots of my favourite supersoldiers.¨
just say you do by biblionerd07 MCU fic, Stucky. Modern AU with fake marriage that turns into… well, you know how it goes. This is a fanfic after all.
For I Mean to Conquer Troy by twelve_pastels X-Men fic, Cherik. Canon divergence. This is the cherik fic for me, okay? It has everything I ever wanted and more.

so, the incredible @nasturtian has been re-reading Sansukh, and has done the best god-diddly darned thing ever.
Anyone here read the Moist Von Lipwig discworld books (what am I saying, of course you have)… anyway, you know how there are those little chapter summary notes/titles at the beginning of the chapter? Yeah. Nas has done that. Up to Ch 31 of Sansukh.
And they are brilliant.
Nas, I love you. Thank you. It’s just – god, your original comments were amazing and made me shriek an unholy amount, blush and stammer and tear up. This though – ahh, this is just the next level, it’s the highest compliment ever. I can’t thank you enough. You are a gem beyond measure. They capture whole swathes of this thing – with a couple of lines or a sentence, I am brought back to how I felt when I wrote that bit, or remember that scene, and it is amazing. You are amazing. These are amazing.
