No worries! It’s certainly not going anywhere or anything. I can sum up the two chapters that are up so far:
Chapter 1: Cousin sass. Both Thorin and Dain couldn’t find their way out of a paper bag tbh. Banter banter banter, FEELS, plus fanart by fishfingersandscarves and lacefedora that makes me cry
Chapter 2: More cousin sass, with added Dain and Gandalf sass because I literally took that one line from BotFA where Gandalf calls Dain ‘unreasonable’ and made it into this long feud between the two because I. CAN. #Thorin why are you being a little bitch #Nori why are you being a jealous little bitch #IS GLOIN sECRETLY A cRIMINAL?! #Bombur is actually one helluva musician #the unholy Frankenstein of book and movie canon. Then some Dain and Bilbo feels that I’m very proud of. Yadda yadda yadda, plus fanart by courtugger and chess-ka that makes me cry.
Chapter 3: *should be posted soon* IT’S LOBELIA BITCH and SHIPPING? pLUS fanart by lacefedora that makes me cry.
FULL SYNOPSIS: Dain is a snarky little smartmouth with a heart of gold and a foot of iron and he’s here to call everyone out on their shit.

idk, this is another private observation of mine: I think that the way he was portrayed in the films – and not just by Richard, check out the camera angles and music chosen for his closeups – really highlight a character who has no ‘middle settings’ when it comes to how he feels. It’s 0 or 10: he either doesn’t care, or he cares far, far too much (and is very poor at hiding it). Thorin does not half-ass how he feels about anything, hehehh.
So, now that he has unravelled how he feels? Full steam ahead, baby, as determined and unstoppable as the sunset! MAKE ALL THE PENS.
He didn’t consciously go ahead and make something pretty and hobbity, something homey and comforting… on purpose? He would swear that upon his own name. He would have said that he was only tinkering about, passing the time and keeping his skills sharp. It does not do to become rusty at your craft.
But around Bilbo’s birthday, every single year, Thorin’s family learned to seek him in his forge more often than not. He would have his head down, and he would be humming absently under his breath. Beneath his hands, forget-me-nots and honeysuckle and tulips would blossom on cold hard metal.
Upon Bilbo’s last birthday, Thorin had been pottering about with a bit of soapstone for a few days between visits to Rivendell and to Gimli. He was so used to crafting with his mind dwelling on other things that he only half-paid attention to what he was doing.
It had been an odd shock to lift his latest bit of dabbling to spot the shape of the pipe within its frame: the nodding snowdrops only half-marked around the bowl. Inside the stone, his eyes could see the sage leaves that waited to be twisted around the long stem, ready to be carved.

Finally got over my podficcing fatigue, so here, at least, is chapter 5 of the podfic of Comes Around Again. In this chapter, we learn that Bilbo is a safe bet, that the line of Durin does not have a monopoly on tragic backstories, and that trolls are ALWAYS unpleasant. Thanks as always to scarletjedi for letting me play with her toys.
Ah, I can’t actually create a print version, unfortunately. There are copyright issues around Tolkien’s works which prevent me from ever creating and profiting from a print version of a fanfic… until 2044 . That year refers to the UK Laws only… I am completely in the dark about US and Australian copyright/public domain for LOTR, but it appears that due to the rise of corporations owning the rights to stuff, rather than the creators, MGM and New Line and the Tolkien Estate will be gripping tightly for a good deal longer. Yaaaay.

Thank you so much! I have just finished work for the term (lesson and unit planning and reporting time now, joy and rapture) – so I may be able to get out another chapter before I have to go back in a couple of weeks!
