The scene with pens in Sansûkh when Thorin is like “Bilbo, baby no cry I’ll make you ALL the pens!” and then when Thorin finds out about Legolas and Gimli and he trashes his smithie in chapter 27! Omg, that scene
this whole freaking ficfreaking kills me!Thorin’s eyes fell upon his latest work; a pen, of course. The nib was shaped like a leaf. Bilbo would like that: he would exclaim in surprise and admire the cleverness behind the design. His eyes would light up in that way they had… and Thorin had never even kissed his Hobbit, never known what he tasted like, never supped of that clever little mouth or held those nimble hands in his own. Love was a trap, and to love was to lose. To be in love, ah – that was to be in pain.
(Did Legolas ache as Thorin ached? No. No.)
The nib was shaped like a leaf. In his hand, Thorin’s heavy smithing-hammer, forged of the densest steel and too weighty for Frerin to lift, drooped suddenly. He could not destroy the things he had made for love.

It is precisely what I was going for, and I am absolutely so touched that you feel that way too. The gargantuan invasion of Bilbo’s privacy is not something that can be lightly brushed aside in the first place – even after Bilbo’s initial anger in Ch34 – and yeah, I wanted to show that a relationship (or even a possible relationship) doesn’t necessarily crumble to bits just because the participants had a fight. Addressing problems is important. Disagreement can be healthy, and can lead to a better understanding of each other. Thus both the Gigolas and Bagginshield scenes in Ch38!
