All of the Dwalinuls take a bit after Dori? Wee Thorin is all sharp objects and knitting. Balinith is all For Science! And nice clothes and tea. Frerinith is fussy and also tea.

YES THEY DO, ALL OF THEM – thank you so much, I am so HAPPY you noticed, Nonnie! I have given all of the kids some of Dori’s influence, because I think he would have been very close to them all. Most trusted babysitter, honorary uncle, etc. So they’ve all got some characteristics and traits that stem from that proximity… all except Gimizh.

Wee Thorin is protective LIKE WHOA. Also knitting. And sighing.

Balinith is orderly, tidy and also SCIENCE, but he’s got a streak of sarcasm in him a mile wide. Sly insults ftw.

And tiny Frerinith is A FUSSY CUTIE PIE BOSSY-BOOTS 😀

(Alas, Gimizh has a hefty dose of Nori as well as Bofur, Gimris and Gimli in his character… which is probably makes Dori both sad and fond simultaneously.)

When I wrote that line about ‘Dori mothers the whole mountain in the absence of his brothers’, I totally, TOTALLY meant it with bells on and a cherry on top… also hello once more, my love of extreme character detail, there you are again

HOLD ONTO YOUR BEARDS

IT’S HEADCANONPALOOZA PART 12!

Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10, Part 11

If you need a smile (for example, IF YOU HAVE BEEN CRYING YOUR HEART OUT OVER A CERTAIN MUSICAL, PRAPS) then here we are: have some epic sweetness and cuteness galore!

After the Quest is over, Bofur makes a killing on hobbit costumes. There are so many babbuhs in Erebor and Dale and, really, all of Middle Earth, dressed up as Frodo and Sam and Pippin and Merry. (Gimizh is not sure which of the hobbits is is favorite, although he, of course, always plays his Brave Uncle Gimli when he and the others recreate the Quest. He once tried to recruit Laerophen to play Legolas.)

Gimizh is of course the envy of every Dwarfling in the North… because he owns the real actual helm that his uncle wore on the Quest.

Wee Thorin is allowed to touch it. Balinith is too.

(Frerinith… is not).

Of course, it’s much too big, and it slips down over his eyes. But try telling him that and he’ll attack your knees.

Gimizh has such a hero-worship for Nori that Dori ends up giving him A piece from Nori’s collection of little boxes. (Nori loves little boxes, especially with valuable shiny things inside) Gimizh treasures it, and keeps tiny treasures in it. Balinith also has one of Ori’s ink pots, a nice little purple glass one.

meanwhile, Dori is simultaneously proud that his brothers are not forgotten – far from it! – and wistful. Because Nori would have been a terrible influence on Gimizh, but my word, they both would have loved it. And Balinith and Ori would have been happily lost for DAYS in the library together.

Little Balinith who is very fierce in his demands for “more bu!! More bu!!” For bedtime and nap time reading. Dwalin and Orla are pleased when he learns to read by himself. Though he falls asleep in the living room so he has light, and his parents have to carry him to bed.

lmao, oh my god, this brings to mind a bit of ancient history though?

Okay, have a story of a (much) smaller Dets…

When I was between three and four, I loved to read A LOT. I pestered my mother constantly, I was a menace for it, probably drove her batty. We have grainy old video footage of me badgering every member of my family into reading with me.

And even after lights-out, I would slip out of my bed and carry a book over to the closed door, to make use of the light that spilled out underneath it. It was barely a sliver, but hey, I had young eyes and kids’ books have big writing (and I knew ‘em all by heart anyway my nerdery began early)

Anyway… the point of this is to say: Yes. Balinith would too. He would.

It’s the Return of the Bride of the Monster of the Night of the HEADCANONPALOOZA!

Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10

(this is what happens when I am too busy to get to tumblr for a few days, whoops – sorry sorry anons!!!)

BOFUR WOULD HAVE THE BEST GRANDUNCLE JOKES.

*battle flashbacks at the mention of Frozen* oh god, babysitting scars, I bear them…

Balinith toddling over to the shelf and declaring “BU!’ and choosing one and bringing it back to his parent to read it to him, until there is a pile fifteen books high beside Dwalin or Orla… aaand probably chucking a wobbly when it’s bedtime, because ‘NO NO NO MORE BU!’

(this is actually what the Dwarfling is doing RIGHT NOW. Her favourite is ‘Where is the Green Sheep’ by Mem Fox!!)

And hells YES – Gloin would be full of AMAZING advice (mostly the kind that sounds complicated, but in essence always boils down to ‘teach ‘em to be good Dwarves, and then trust ‘em to be good Dwarves’.)

Gimizh has PLANS to help corrupt – I mean, play with – the new royal baby on the way once she/he/they is big enough to join in games. Wee Thorin is worried by the look of glee on Gimizh’s face. Balinith and Frerinith are just excited because new playmate! is always exciting, and want to show him/her/them all their favorite games and toys and sweets and such.

Heheheheh, Gimizh is probably already planning what he can get away with blaming on the baby :DDD

So all of Dwalin’s kids have some stuff that related to their namesake. Wee Thorin has a set of (nicely decorated) combs and brushes that Dis made for Thorin Oakenshield for his 175th and can’t bear to look at anymore. Balinith has some of Balin’s books and use of his favorite armchair. Frerinith has some of Frerin’s toys. He especially likes the blocks, spending hours piling them in pretty patterns.

I made sad whimpery gaspy sounds all through reading this, Nonnie.

Ohhhhhhhhh ❤
