FUCK yes, she would. He doesn’t waste his time, and he’s a dry-witted, to-the-point little so-and-so as well. Heck, Narvi’d LOVE Balinith.

Dis does bad knitting too (but not as bad as Hrera’s). Wee Thorin got a knitted baby onesie from her which he promptly destroyed by vomit and crawling. Balinith and Frerinith and Gimizh got little blankets instead. Dis makes scarves and mittens and hats for her cousins.
She’d be the angriest knitter in the world, oh my god.
It’d be awesome.
Balinith really likes visiting Dori because Dori has all sorts of neat books around – they were Ori’s and Dori can’t bear to part with them. But he doesn’t mind little dwarflings reading them. Also. Dori lets Balin fiddle with yarn ends, which he likes.
YES, PERFECT.
Curious, clever, intent little Balinith is exactly the right person to entrust Ori’s old books to, to Dori’s mind. Gimizh would rip them to shreds, Wee Thorin barely cares, and Frerinith just chews on them.
(I bet he has yarn bookmarks for this purpose!)
Dori makes the cutest little soft dolls for babies and tiny kids. Some are rag dolls and some are knitted, and they’re all adorable. He has some generic patterns but will often make the doll up to resemble a kid’s family member. So, for example, baby Balin had a Balin Fundinul rag doll. (There might be plans for a Bombur one for Thorin 3/Bonfris kid in Dori’s office. Dori has made several of these since Bombur has several grandkids)
Ohhhhhhh :’) What a lovely notion, Nonnie.
Imagine all of the Dwarfling troupe, having tea with Dis. The kids are all wearing fancy dresses from Mizim’s stash of dressup clothes, and they’re arguing who’s the prettiest princess (or, as Frerinith says, the pwettiest pwincess). Dis solves the argument by saying in her most deadpan voice that she’s the prettiest princess. Of course.
Awwww, Nonnie, that is absolutely gorgeous! Mizim DEFINITELY would have a dress-ups box, and Dis is DEFINITELY the prettiest princess. (though Gimizh is totally working his dress like a pro)
Gimizh asking ALL the questions about Oin and it’s generally sad and awkward for everyone.
OUCH, NONNIE.
because Gimli will be coming home with the Book of Mazarbul. And ofc everyone will finally find out why the Moria colony has been silent, and that they’re dead, all of them. How they died twenty years ago, and nobody knew.
And Dori and Gloin and Dwalin will be mourning, and their families too, and Gimli, who has had time to come to terms with this (well, a bit, in-between fighting for his life/running across Middle-Earth/falling in love with dumb Elves) will hear a small voice pipe up with, “Who’s Oin?”
And oh, the look on Gloin’s face would hurt. Because Gimizh will never know the clever, funny, generous, boisterous, gruff old fellow who taught Gimli how to walk in a mine, how to play a jug, how to dress and clean a wound in the field.
Gimizh will never know the person who inspired his mother to become a healer.
(aaaaand on that note, Balin son of Dwalin will never meet the Dwarf he is named for. ohgod oh ouch)
AUGH. It’s too early for these feels, Nonnie.
I’m having all of the good!dad Dwalin feels -sniffles-
*pats the Nonnie* He is indeed a very good daddy. He loves his madcap little troupe of children, ohhh so much.
(He has begrudgingly accepted Gimizh’s inescapable presence amongst them. And he thinks that protective, loyal and put-upon Wee Thorin is far, far too much like himself sometimes.)
Frerinith and Balinith attach themselves to Thira for a while after the battle. Frerinith is just cute and cheerful, and Balinith asks a lot of questions about metalworking because it helps distract Thira. Frerinith does lots of cuddling. (Toddler smells are very reassuring, and he keeps feeding her cookies. You don’t say no to the big eyes and if you get distracted by the wibbly lips you get a mouthful of squishy cooky)
AWWWWKLHGSLJHFDLJSDFLSJHDS
Yes. Dwarfling puppy-pile for Thira. Yes.
Dori is 300% done with Gimizh’s shenanigans. Too cute for his own good. Wee Thorin is acceptable, as he is Responsible. Balinith is very earnest (and sweet). Frerinith is a cute muffin, and listens well. And holds things.
TOO CUTE, OH MY GOD.
(tbh, I think Dori is a LOT more indulgent with the whirlwind of imagination and mayhem that is Gimizh than he should be. Perhaps he can’t help it. He just can’t bring himself to follow through on all his outraged threats and punishments, no matter what Gimizh has done to deserve them this time around. He can’t even look at the lad without the memories: a small, mischievous, light-fingered and red-headed tyke, with a sly gappy grin and adventure deep in his heart.)
Tiniest of Sansukh snippets for determamfidd under the cut. Gimris and Balinith.
HNNNGH ALL THE CUTENESSS I NEED TO HUG EM BOTH
