Could a dwarf ever find their One in the halls of Mahal? I know that sort of happens with Ori and Bifur, but they knew each other while they were alive. What about two dwarves who lived hundreds of years apart? Mostly I’m curious about what that would be like, but I’m also specifically remembering Zhori being so unlucky in love during her lifetime.

Yeah, totally! Dwarves can fall in love in the Halls, and it doesn’t matter whether they knew each other in life or not. That has no bearing on the connections they make in the Halls.

It takes a LOT longer, though, because of the enormous emotional intertia of the Halls. They make things slooooooow dooooooown – which is awesome for healing, because it gives you time to process things! But a little less brilliant for grappling with attraction, I am guessing. 

Talk about the slowest of slow burns, heh

Hey dets! 🙋 I was just wondering what you thought about dwarfs finding love/their ones in the halls of mahal? Like they would probably meet at some point in their lives but might not have followed through with romance, but the halls of Mahal are like eternal so? Also what about love with Dwarfs from other clans? Do the clans mix much in the halls? Sorry for all the questions 😂 thanks 😊

I’ve answered your first one, some time back! Here is my answer. 

Summarised: yes, Dwarves can TOTALLY find romance in the Halls, but it takes a while because of the huge stagnancy/inertia of the Halls. They are a place of waiting, and of peace, basically. So things happen slowly, if at all. 

(still, Bifur and Ori managed to discover love for each other after death, so heyyy it happens!)

Oh yeah, other clans could totally happen! ABSOLUTELY happen. I mean, I have a few inter-clan relationships going on already… Bomfris is a Broadbeam, Orla is a Blacklock, Bifur, Bombur AND Bofur are Broadbeams… Gloin is ½ Firebeard… etc!

I think mingling would depend on the Dwarves as individuals rather than as a unit. Some would like to keep only to those folks they know – or knew, rather. Some are gregarious and curious and interested in meeting new people and learning about them!

(Bombur would absolutely be one of these… he’s a rather reticent fellow by nature, but he must-must-must know about their food, what are their cuisines like? Can he try it? What ingredient is this? May he PLEASE watch you as you make it???)

What an amazing chapter. I love how patient and calm Bifur was whilst poor Ori was spiralling through a rollercoaster of INTENSE EMOTIONS. Poor Ori! (And Dori!!)

One of the reasons WHY I like the pairing of Bifur and Ori? Ori doesn’t have to be meek and coddled: he can be active, powerful and strong. And Bifur doesn’t have to be a burden or loose cannon: he can be a supporter and not continuously the supported. IDK I like them lots 🙂

Mod Bifori with lots of cuddles over movies. So much cutesiness. Hot chocolate and tea and popcorn and kisses and cuddles. Sweetness galore.

Hi I’m a big fan of your The Shops fic! I was wondering, how did you and chess-ka decide to work on it togethr?

Hey! Sorry to take so long to get to this.

Deciding to do The Shops was really a bunch of things.

Firstly, I read some really good Nwalin collabs a while ago. One was War Dogs, by thorinsmut and nowitsaparty, and the other was The Protector by thorinsmut and syntheticcathedral. These fics are great, and planted the idea of doing a collab in my mind. 

Then determamfidd started putting Bifori in Sansukh, and chess-ka and I, among others, became shipper trash for this wonderful little rarepair.

Chess-ka was doing some really cool hobbit art, some of it Sansukh related, and some Bifori (her art tag). I really liked it, and ended up writing a short about one of the Bifori ones (find it here) when Chess-ka won my follower forever contest.  

So then chess and I were talking about Bifori on and off, and we bounced around the idea of maybe doing some writing/drawing collab. Then we started bouncing around ideas and stuff over skype and google docs and inbox, and The shops was born.

And the world is so much richer now ❤
