Mundain headcanon: he has several Dain-dolls. He poses for Bofur for new dolls because it’s fun. He has also talked with Bocur about his parents to make sure that their dolls are accurate – this is a marker of how Bofur and Dain are kinda close. This discussion also involved lots of ale.

oh jeez, Nonnie. This is lovely and also sortakinda ouch… because Dain lost both (in my little headcanon, anyway, it’s both) his parents at the tender age of 32. Nain was butchered by Azog in front of his eyes.

So the image that came to me then was Dain and Bofur sitting together in warm, close lamplight. Dain has several empty tankards in front of him, and clutches another. His face is creased and sad as he wracks his memory. Bofur has a couple of empties sitting to to side, and a notebook resting in front of him, taking down as many details as Dain can remember… which isn’t many. It isn’t many at all.

(He remembers that his father had red hair also, and that Daeris’ eyes were brown. He remembers the smell of his mother’s hair-oil, spicy and pungent, and he remembers the way his father’s body crumpled onto the steps of Khazad-dum, the head lolling on its broken neck)

Bofur is a bro, though, and wouldn’t draw attention to the shaking of the King’s voice. He’s far too kind for that.

Because every OTP is even more adorable as femslash XP

So naturally I had to sneak off for a bit during our lady company shoot to get a couple stolen hats photos, along with the lovely cousincecily (who is a very good sport for indulging my shipper trash heart XD).  Just some cell phone photos (taken by the also lovely queen-valkyrie) since that’s all we had time for, so I had some fun playing around with filters XP

I suppose the chance of Gimizh ever becoming an older sibling are in the slim-to-none range? (You mentioned some slight medical issues re sibs early in the fic, but I’m not sure how long-lasting those were meant to be)

Gimris did not have an easy pregnancy or birth, poor girl. She probably isn’t sold on the idea of going through it again.

Also – I think most of Erebor might actually cry in terror if Bofur and Gimris announced they were having another one.

But the reason behind Gimizh being an only child is a little more meta than that, too… I mean, the Dwarves ‘do not bear nor bring forth’ easily, etc etc. I had a bit of a think about this. They are a diminishing race, even at the time of LOTR. They are about to go through their last great period of glory post-Ring War, before they disappear during the Age of Men. So, with all that in mind, I think that very small families would have been the norm. Thorin’s own family, with three siblings born within 20 years, would have been considered quite large. Two children seems to be the most common, judging from the Company’s lineup!

Bombur? Is a complete ANOMALY 🙂

At some point, Dori makes Gimli and Gimizh matching sweaters. Gimizh just about explodes with happiness.

OH MY GOOOODDD

HE WOULD

HE UTTERLY, TOTALLY, COMPLETELY WOULD. And he’d badger Gimli into wearing it all the time, so that they would match as often as possible. Gimris would shake her head and try to hide her smile. Dori would be pleased. Bofur would giggle aloud at the look on Gimli’s face. Because it’s one thing to wear it at home, but quite another to try and pair it with his armour and gear for patrol.

Mahal help the first Dwarf who laughs.
