I will LOVE THEM ALL.

Hey dets! You’re writing is the bomb-diggity, it always either brightens my day or drowns me in feels. I was wondering – are there any gender-fluid characters in sansukh? would dwarves be accepting of genderfluid people?
Hey Nonnie! I am so glad you’re enjoying it, thank you so much!
There is at this stage one genderfluid character in Sansukh: Bombur and Alris’ child Bomfur. They also answer to Bomfa. Bomf is a silversmith, and a very good one. They are married to a goldsmith, Zerin.
Bomf is something of a quiet achiever amongst their huge and noisy and generally rather famous clan. They habitually speak rather softly, and are very close to their young brother Bibur (who is apprenticing under their husband, Zerin).
Bomf is well-known for their incredible wealth of hair. Bomf has the brown hair of their mother, Alris, but in the bushy abundance that is all Bombur’s legacy. Bomf also has a very remarkable singing voice, though it is not the stellar polished brilliance of his eldest sister Baris.
They like to part their beard in the middle on some days and braid it in different styles upon each side, each indicating a different gender. This gives them an asymmetrical appearance, which they rather enjoy.
Upon some days they wear the braids that indicate that this is a Bomfa day, and others to show that today they prefer to be Bomfur.

Bombur and Barur probably pack rad school/work lunches. They look amazing and taste better, even before the family moved to Erebor and had the money for the good/healthy/not almost spoiled ingredient. So much jealousy among the other schoolkids and workmates.

hello! a little late to the party, but i finally got round to it. i was really surprised to be cast and i’m still a little overwhelmed to be in such good company so i’m being uncharacteristically shy, though i’m going to try and correct that over the next couple days 🙂
BOMBUUUUUUR!
Also – your singing voice is gorgeous.
Also also – er. Sorry about last chapter. *hides* SORRY.
SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 35!!!!!!!!!!! Everybody cries over Dain BUT WHAT OF BOMBUR????!!! My poor heart ! I loved that Dwarf ! And poor Bifur who had to watch this ! And Bofur who couldn’t see his younger brother (who was supposed to be SAFE INSIDE THAT MOUNTAIN DAMMIT!) one last time ! You killed me ! My darlings from the -Ur family, I am with you !
Oh, there was PLENTY of outrage over Bombur, let me assure you! I just didn’t post those messages yesterday (bc spoilers). Everybody knew Dain’s end was on the cards, after all!
ALSO – SORRY.
so you have just about every other type on the spectrum so I wanna ask: are any of the people we’ve seen in Sansukh bisexual/romantic or pan? will there be people who are?
Hells yes, there are bisexual and biromantic people in Sansukh! The most prominent one is Thorin himself (he had a crush on the beautiful Mizim as a younger Dwarf, but ended up falling for Bilbo much much later).
Of the children of Bombur and Alris, Alfur is bisexual (he was crushing on Gimli, alllll the way back in chapter 8. He ends up marrying a dwarrowdam named Geri – the one who is in labour during Chapter 29!). Bomfur is pansexual (and genderfluid). Bolrur is biromantic ace.
(for more on Bombur & Alris’ mighty clan, check this out)
I also consider Sam Gamgee to be biromantic.
Oh Great and Terrible (For Making Me Cry) Dets, will you please share how the Frankly Amazing Friendship of Bofur and Dain came to be? I’ve wondered since Chapter 2, when Bofur (of all the Company) was the only one to see the Mirkwood/Erebor Treaty signed!
It was sort of an accident, really.
So many people were injured after the battle. Bombur’s leg was mending, if slowly (the orc-poison damaged so many of his tissues, it was a wonder he managed to regain any use of it at all. Dwarves are hardy folk, though) and Bifur lay insensate after the reopening of his head wound. Bofur was frantic with worry. Oin eventually shooed him from the sickrooms to go and eat something, because: ‘I don’t need another patient, an’ you’re about to drop where you stand! Go! Eat! Rest! Bugger off, I don’t want to see you again for at least a day!’
So Bofur was at a loose end. He couldn’t rest, though, not when his kin lay so terribly injured. He ate, but didn’t really taste it. He wandered for a while, aimlessly drifting through ruined Erebor.
And then he stumbled over the entrance to the tombs, where they’d laid Thorin and the lads only days before. The torches were lit, and he found himself taking the long steps down, down, down into the chill.
The statues were freshly hewn and hair was scattered around their feet, cut from many beards in mourning. And sitting upon the plinth that held up Thorin’s likeness was Dain, his head bent and in his hands.
Bofur paused, ready to leave, but Dain heard him. The new King lifted his head slowly, as though it weighed a tonne. His eyes were shadowed pits of grief as he met Bofur’s gaze.
The two stared at each other for a long, heavy, awful moment.
Then Bofur blurted, “want to go get drunk?”
Dain’s mouth actually twitched. “Do I ever.”
And so they did.
