Yeah. That’s…been the last…uhm…huh. That’s been the last year and change. It just got worse lately by a factor of I Don’t Know But It Sucks.
Cut for details because this runs long, but I’m trying to provide a full picture and not fail at it, or whine any more than I am right now. (Nope, already failed at not whining. Dammit.)
This is basically me getting down on my knees and begging for survival, except my knees already hurt so let’s just pretend I did that part, okay?
The House of Reps has passed the Life Time Ban on Visas Bill. This bill will seek to bar anyone who attempted to seek asylum in Australia by boat after July 2013 from ever being granted a visa to even visit Australia. The government is doing this to score points with One Nation in exchange for their support on future legislation.
The measure is cruel, unnecessary, and could have all manner of unintended consequences. Imagine a child brought by a parent seeking to join their other parent whom has been granted refugee status and is already in Australia – the child could never even visit their parent here for the rest of their life.
The UN has already said that the proposed ban appears to breach Article 31 of the Refugee Convention (which prohibits refugees being penalised for seeking protection in an irregular manner.) Are we the sort of country that does things like this?
This measure cannot pass without the votes of the cross bench. Please email or call them, particularly if you are resident in their state and they are your representative.
So, I have some personal shit going on and I’ve missed work. After seeing my friend 2 weeks ago, work missed putting me on schedule last week, and then this week I had to take today off because my sister had surgery and I’m on-call to watch my niece (I thought I DID have her today, but regardless, I have to be available since my mom’s got my terrible patient of a sister, and the two other men are at work that isn’t minimum wage hellpits.)
However, I’ve been planning for months to go back down to my friend’s for a convention, plus my phone insurance and car insurance. No big, I get paid tomorrow. Oh wait, I’ve just had basically 2 weeks off.
If I have a paycheck, it’ll be small, and I’ll have, at most, money to pay for my phone (no big, i can pay for my car next check), and gas to get down there.
“So just don’t go!” some of you might say.
I can’t get a refund for my ticket. I can’t even transfer it. So I’m going. My friend was looking forward to it, I was looking forward to it, and after the stressful bullshit that is my sister’s surgery and recovery, I need to go.
I’m not asking for money donations. I’m asking for commissions.
Consider them half price, even. So 5$ for, roughly, 1000 words? Seems like a better deal for you than me. So, please, consider it?
OK so apparently a bunch of people with throwaway email accounts have been going around and submitting a music video from some underground garage band to people (the band has already said they’re not the ones doing it). The music video is a bunch of cis guys in makeup and dresses and wigs and stuff, and apparently the video is being sent to trans girls in an effort to trigger dysphoria (and apparently somebody thought I’m a trans girl because I got it sent to me). If you get a music video for a song called Like a Lady by Crosa Rosa in your submission box, just delete it.

I’m a Berklee student, and I need to make contact with someone who works in music for an interview next week. I haven’t been given details on exactly what I’ll be asking for in the interview, but this is for a 3 credit introductory level class so it probably won’t be anything too intense. I really
wanted to have another Khazâd October this year, but I somehow didn’t get
around to organizing it… so let’s have Khazâd November instead!
In case you
missed it last year, the aim is to show the dwarves that usually get less
fandom appreciation some love too. Fanfiction, art, headcanons, meta, cosplay,
rec lists… whatever you come up with is great!
Each dwarf
will have their own day on which you can post your contributions (though it
isn’t really a problem if you are a bit late). If you want to create things
about dwarves that aren’t on the list or OC dwarves, please do so and post
those whenever you like. If you want to write about textual ghosts like mothers,
daughters or sisters (because dwarrowdams are awesome!), a great possibility
would be to post on the day assigned to the dwarf they are connected to. Though
the aim is of course to not only create content about the dwarves everybody
likes focusing on anyway, it is fine if you only contribute on some days.
Please tag your
contributions as #khazadnovember so that I can find them. Please also add any
necessary warnings (character death, non-con etc.) And because we want this to
be fun for everyone involved, please remember to be polite to others taking
part in this event – if you don’t like something somebody created, just move on
without being rude. 🙂
