Dori and his brothers open up a clothes shop in your askbox. They reckon they could make a fortune there.

Dori totally goes on an agressive mothering spree in his first few months in the Halls. Nori and Ori (and pretty soon, Bifur) are awash in new clothes and knitwear. Their hair is braided. They are fed massive amounts of food. Dori meets Bifur’s mom and makes an especial cause of feeding her.

Bomris and Dori. Dori and Bomris.
BOMRIS AND DORI.
He’d be so gentle. She’d be so gentle. THEY’D BE SO GENTLE.
Okay so I already have a lot of feelings about Dori meeting his brothers again in the Halls, but what about his mother? Dori apologizing to her over and over for not protecting his brothers well enough, and Zhori hugging him tight and telling him that’s nonsense, that she’s grateful that he worked so hard to keep the family together for so long after she was gone. Dori breaking down crying, because he’s had to BE the oldest and the parent for so long that he’s forgotten how it felt to HAVE one.
SLOW DOWN THERE SATAN
Nori’s ideas about what constitutes a suitable doorstop probably get more and more inappropriate in order to try and get Ori to laugh or smile. Like, a rock with a pretty pattern? Good. Thorin’s sword? Less good. One of Zhori’s hand carder? Okay. An anatomically-improbable jade dildo? Really, Nori? One of Hrera’s diadems? Dammit, Nori!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Hrera is going to skin you, Nori!!
Sad headcanon that for a while after Ori died he couldn’t stand being in a room with the door closed – he always had to know that he could get out. Nori didn’t really say anything, but he did start to accumulate various objects that could act as doorstops to keep them swinging shut.

Oh that hurt. That stings, Nonnie.
AUGH
In the same vein of Dori’s similarities to Mrs Weasley, I’m imagining Nori and Ori watching him harangue the other dwarves whilst preparing for the siege and just rolling their eyes. “The idiots are letting him get into his stride. You need to head him off early or he just builds up this head of steam and rants for hours… look, they can’t even dodge the hanky. Useless lot.”
HAHAHA – oh, what about Ori and Nori marking each Dwarf out of ten for Dori-management?
“Eight out of ten, not bad. Brought out the tea and everything. Lost points for arguing. Waste o’ time, that.”
“Oh, what a colossal twit. Three out of ten. Tried to pick him up. And stared at his bottom. Absolutely deserved that punch – and the fussing afterwards.”
Dori totally grandparents/great-uncles all the kids he can get his hands on. A great many of the kids don’t have many or any living older relatives, and Dori loves kids. Nori thinks that his brother is hoarding small children.
Dori would fund schools and homes and apprenticeships like WHOA. He would also probably fuss over every single one.
(Nori knows why. And it makes him sad, though he’ll never say it aloud.)
I have a question. My headcanon for Dori has always been that he is ace, and either aromantic or demiromantic, which I was really glad to see in Sansukh, but I also have another headcanon for him. That Nori disappeared for awhile after their mother died and so Dori, alone, broke, and with baby Ori to take care of, had to turn to prostitution to make sure Ori had a roof over his head and such. Do you think that’s possible, or…?
Hey Nonnie!
Anything’s possible! I’m not using that particular idea in Sansukh (it’d be an entire fic in itself!!), but it’s a heartbreaking and interesting headcanon!
Will we meet Ymris in Sansukh? She sounds so fascinating in the “meet a Dwarrowdam” blurb!
I don’t have any plans to include her at this stage… I wrote her to colour in the background for the Brothers Ri, and unexpectedly really liked her a lot! So, perhaps she’ll show up in a headcanon or one of the Appendices. If you would like to write anything about her, you are very welcome to!
