The SansĂ»kh group has finally come to life at DragonCon!!! We were missing DĂs today, but she’ll join us on Sunday for our big photoshoot ❀ And we won best group in the Evening at Bree contest and danced to the best of our corseted, bearded ability xD

Left to right- me as GimrĂs, @flukeoffate as Mizim, @houkakyou as Bani, @jedi-goldberry-with-the-force as BomfrĂs, and @the-dragongirl as BarĂs

@determamfidd!!!

OH

MY

GOD

I’m shaking and screaming, JUST LOOK AT THESE FANTASTIC FIERCE AND FABULOUS DWARF LADIES

houkakyou:

Received my custom Georgian style corset from Historical Designs
today! I can finally start sewing the tunic and apron that will go over
these garments. The chemise and bloomers have been done for months XD

â€ȘAlso, despite the drastic silhouette change, it’s interesting to note that my bust/waist/hips measurements remain pretty much the same as when unconstrained! It just looks super different ;P

*SQUEAKS IN HAPPINESS* ohhhh my GOD houkakyou, that corset is awesome, the colours suit perfectly with the pants, the undershirt sits so well (THAT SILHOUETTE!) Oh gosh, it’s all coming together, ljshdgfjsafda this is going to look AMAZING

We interrupt today’s marathon dissertation writing to bring you a progress update on my cosplay of
BarĂs

from @determamfidd‘s Sansukh. The undergown is now totally done (well, except for ironing that hem, but shhhhh)!
Honestly, if I were doing day-to-day
BarĂs instead of her court gown, I could probably just wear this as-is and call it good.

Like the undergarments, the whole thing is hand-sewn. I chose to make the sleeves separate pieces for this one, since I want to have pulls of that chemise showing where the overgown sleeves attach. I also left vents in the elbows of the undergown sleeves, both the give me the option for extra pulls there, and for the safe of freedom of movement. The whole thing is fully lined (with canvas in the bodice and sleeves, and with muslin  in the skirt) I might possibly add another petticoat at some point, since the skirt is a bit fuller than I had originally planned, and I have LOTS of extra muslin, but I am pleased with it overall.

Now, I think I’ll be taking a break from sewing for the next step, and focus on the hair and beard. And by “focus on”, I really mean order the wig and wefts, and then leave them alone until after I graduate. There’s no way I’ll have any significant amount of crafting time in the next month, and I don’t want to try and transport the overgown cross-country when it’s still in pieces. Besides, this way I can go to buy the overgown fabric in person, instead of ordering it offline. As an added bonus, once the wig and beard are done, this costume can actually be worn.

aviva0017:

My Gimris wig is here and it is an insane hairpile omg xD Left is down, right is me holding it in a vague approximation of how it will actually by styled (really a sort of crown braid with the front parts braided into the beard xD)

Also posting my design sketch since its time to get off my ass and make it xD Influenced largely by the styles that ended up in the movie, though also some early concept art.

@determamfidd What do you think? Also, can’t wait to be your waifu, @theriza ;D

DEAFENING. PIERCING. SHRIEK

kjashgdlfjgasljfdh OH MY GOD AVI – that is so gorgeous, holy heck, lookit all them GORGEOUS CURLS

the-dragongirl:

After many months of working on this off and on, I finally have progress to report on my Barís cosplay from Sansukh: the corset is complete! Shown here with the chemise I posted awhile ago, this corset is 100% hand sewn, and made from cotton duck, 3/4″ flat steel boning, and satin ribbon. The pattern I used is an authentic English renaissance design.

You will note that, unlike a Baroque or Victorian corset, this corset is not meant to give the body curves or make the waist look tiny. Rather, it gives the body smooth lines, and emphasizes the cleavage. This is consistent with the general dress shapes we see in the brief flashes of dwarrowdams in Erebor in the films. Also, as an added bonus, it can be used under any renaissance gown I care to sew.

Next step will be to make the bumroll and petticoat, and then I can get started on the kirtle that serves as the undergown.

HOLY W O W

peggaboo-draws:

Actual real photograph The Big Scandinavian Sansukh cast meet-up at NĂ€rcon this summer! Featuring peggaboo (aka yours truly) as the witchking (I know the helmet is wrong shut up), The actually-sweeter-and-purer-than-the-sweet-pure-cinnamon-bun-in-her-mouth theriza as Bofur and the equally precious baby nukkelapsi as Ori!

OH mY GOODNESS ❀

Cute lil witchking with a blushy helmet! ORI W UMBRELLA. Bofur (AND Riza!) = cinnamon bun, I 400000% agree.

This is SO ADORABLE, and I hope you had a wonderful time!
