At long last, progress on the Baris court gown cosplay! The chemise is now completely finished, though I may decide to go back and reinforce a couple of the seams before attempting to machine wash it. As the photos show, following the tutorial exactly has given me very puffy sleeves, which will be nice for the pulls I designed in the outer sleeves. Of course, it would have been done a lot faster if I hadn’t hand stitched the whole thing, but there’s something satisfying about making a chemise the old fashioned way.
In other progress, all the rhinestones for the circlet and other accessories have been obtained. I have selected the fabric for the outer gown, and aviva0017 has very kindly found me fabric for the undergown. Next up, though… the corset. THAT’S going to be interesting.
Since an interest was expressed in seeing these: I have been designing my own version of
Barís’s court gown from chapter 19 of Sansukh, with the intention of sewing it over the next year or so and cosplaying her. Here are my initial concept sketches. Although the sketches don’t show it, the wig will be about 4 inches short of floor length at the back.
I have based my design on a combination of elements described in Sansukh, screen shots of the dwarrowdams we saw fleeing Erebor in the movies, and my own knowledge of the Italian renaissance (since that seems to be the closest period and style to what we saw in Erebor).

Well, Tumblr has been fighting me for 24 hours on this, but I finally managed it, here’s Thranduil berating Legolas for his life choice, a wonderful video request by sonofqueen. This was the most challenging and enjoyable requests I’ve gotten. I was also asked to tag my son, jaegervega, there you are my moonbeam.
I am sorry that it’s a cellphone video and that I
drank a glass of wine per take and by the time the bottle was starting
to get empty I figured that was all I would get for the night. I still
haven’t brought myself to watch with the sound on XD
As for the
other requests I got over the weekend, I haven’t forgotten about you,
