It’s fine! I can’t remember word for word what I said (which is a bit sad, because I phrased it better), but I wondered if the elves’ dancing in Midwinter would be considered interpretive dance, like Isadora Duncan performed? And I also was curious why, if Thranduil trained Laerophen and Laindawar, did Laerophen end up being the one to teach Legolas? Was it just coincidence, or is there a more angsty reason? Sorry, it sounded a lot better the first time :( But I’m always up for dancing convos :)

Hey Nonnie – sorry I took so long to get to this. Been taking a little break.

Yes, interpretive dance! Isadora Duncan was part of the inspiration behind the idea – in particular, her Water Study. It feels amazingly Elvish, to me.

Thranduil will train Legolas to dance the seasons, most certainly… but our green leaf is just a tiny tiny wee Elfling at the time of ‘Midwinter’, and so Thranduil hasn’t gotten around to it yet! Legolas is impatient and doesn’t feel like waiting until he is ‘ready’, and is bothering his big brother about it, basically.

*hugs*

You had a post a little while back on the idea of Georgian-dancing-as-Dwarvish-dancing and how awesome it would be if they did it with ceremonial weapons? Such a thing does actually exist! :) Can’t send a link in the ask, but if you look up the “Parikaoba” dance on youtube, there’s some fabulousness to be had.

AHHHHHHHHH

YES

Please watch, if you like dancing and/or Dwarven dance ideas, bc OH MY GOD

HERE’S ONE THAT MADE MY HEART STOP

Headcanon: the Dwarves do a version of the Phillipine Tinikling as a courting dance, only with long-handled war-axes or pikes instead of bamboo. Imagine the heavy boots thundering, the braids and beards flying! (google Tinikling Bamboo Dance | Phillipine Dances for one that speeds up)

AHHHH

This is amazing, thank you so so much for telling me about this! I LOVE DANCE.

I found some incredible stuff on youtube! This one had me enthusiastically clapping along, and this one is fab too. Just awesome! (I BET IT HURTS LIKE A BUGGER IF YOU GET YOUR FOOT CAUGHT)

Maybe Dwalin spends several years after BOTFA just -not dancing- because there are too many sad associations with Thorin, Fili, & Kili. But he does dance a bit with Orla – mostly quiet ones (by dwarf standards). And he’ll occasionally let his kids drag him into a faster one. Though couple’s/group dancing is a Big Thing for dwarves.

*falls over and wibbles a bit*

I bet Dwalin and Orla make people a bit apprehensive at first when they go out onto the square – and then they’re so gentle and quiet with each other, it’d be a bit off-putting, hee.
