okay. so. Dis? has been making me so freaking sad. she’s just. I just. I can’t even????? and poor vili, watching her fade faster and faster, his steel and silver sweetheart, and I just. can’t. like, she drags Thranduil by his long elfin locks, kicking and screaming, into being a better person and owning up to his shit? brb still sobbing.

AHHH thank for mentioning the Thranduil thingy…. that’s just such a huge moment for her, she isn’t TOTALLY made of anger and sads and pain, she can fucking USE her anger and what she’s learned from it – and beat an Elf twit over the head with it until he gets a clue heh

but okay fine yes I admit she is MOSTLY made of anger and sads and pain

(but NOT ANY MOREEEEE)

Wouldn’t Durin VII have priority over the throne to Dísith, because he’s male? Or does little Dís have priority because she’s first born…? The line of Durin only mentions Kings- Is that just because males are so much more common in dwarves? *~*

The Line of Durin only mentions Kings because Tolkien made it that way. He also made it so that the Dwarves apparently don’t record the names of the ladies. I expect he probably did think that male primogeniture was the way to go as well.

I dislike this intensely. So I’m changing it. Because fanfiction. So yes, in Sansukh,

Dísith

is firstborn, so she’s first in line. Durin is not.

(before someone points out

Dís-the-elder, in Sansukh she abdicated her place in the succession in order to marry Vili – as a lowborn nobody of a miner, he really was at the bottom of the heap. It’s mentioned several times in the fic. That’s why she didn’t become Queen. Also, she bloody didn’t want it after what it had done to her family.)

HER FACE YES, her expression is so perfect and I am going to cry at the sight of her, AUGH, the smile – teeth clenched tight and hands gripping and tangling with all her strength and her eyes pressed shut against all these FELLINGS, just clinging with all her might and main because she missed him

and he is so startled, i can just feel the guilt being knocked out of him here! His fingers widespread YESSSS, the lurch in his centre of balance

GOD I can feel the movement in this amazing work, the emotion, so damn clearly and beautifully, you are just. so. skilled

(ALSO AHHH HER ARM TATTS, HIS TATTS, THEIR HAIR!  HER EARRINGS! THE COLOURS: GREY AND NIGHT-BLUE AND SOMBRE AND I AM HOWLING)

aaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH I LOVE YOU, I LOVE IT, THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH

I’d like to put in a vote for Dis as the best. Yes, she’s canon, but Tolkien gave us NOTHING about her and you took that and RAN with it and I love the direction you chose for her.

(ahhh thank you, thank you SO MUCH nonnie! I deliberately steered her character away from the popular Dis-depiction that was common when I first began the story, and I am SO SO GLAD you like where I took her! It felt like the most risky choice ever, at the time!!)

Dis would probably say thank you too, thank you very much. She’d say it quietly, and baldly, and with an undercurrent of steely, sad dignity.
