If thorin and frerin are like ori dori and nori, they might go by the brothers rin. But frerins name already basically means that. I’m not phrasing it well but what if frerin was like.. A placeholder name just bc tolkein couldn’t think of anything better than “rin brother”

Oooh yeah! It’s been suggested with evidence that ‘Dis’ simply means ‘sister’ – so, it’s possible that Tolkien had a couple of placeholder names there!

… or he was subtly suggesting that Thrain and his partner used up all their naming creativity on their firstborn, idk!!

You know, I’m generally not one to wait and hope for character death, especially of a character I like as much as I like Dis. But dammit, you’ve done it. When will Dis finally die?

I have a potentially stupid question, sorry in advance! But near the end of Dis’ main scene in the new chapter, it almost seemed like she could actually hear Vili? Or was that just Gimli telling her what Vili said? I know Thorin told Gimli to tell Dis that Vili watched her daily, which he did, but Vili spoke after that and it kind of seemed like she heard him. So, am I just nuts from sleep-deprivation, or could she actually hear him (veil thinning as she gets closer to it?)

awwww, that’s not a stupid question, not at all! Nah, she’s not hearing him – but I made a choice to drop all the ‘Gimli repeated’ lines towards the end of the scene – they only slowed the pace and they were implied anyway 🙂

But dang, I do like that idea…!!!
