first off, sansukh is amazing, of course. i could give so much praise for everything you’ve done with it, with dwarves, with dwarf culture, etc. BUT that would take all day and i’ve got a question to get to (sorry. i still love it <3 but sorry) so i seem to have developed a bit of an infatuation with dori recently. you've often got little, i guess you could call them side-pairings, those little asides with romances mentioned but not integral to the story. anything planned for dori?

First – thank you, I’m so happy you’re enjoying the fic and all the worldbuilding and culture stuff! It’s a lot of work, but I do love it, and it’s just so lovely to hear that.

Ah, I’m really really sorry to disappoint you, Nonnie, but it’s mentioned a few times in the fic that my version of Dori is aro-ace. He’s an important Dwarf, Guildmaster and Quartemaster of Erebor, and he mothers half the mountain – and terrifies the rest, because he’s still one of the strongest Dwarves. He’s not interested in the slightest in romance.

(to the eternal disappointment of most of Erebor, because Dori is also Mr Hottie TA 3019.)

I suddenly found myself wondering how exactly Dori will react when he gets to the Halls and his baby brother is in a relationship. Since he’s kind of a mother hen, actually, he /is/ a mother hen but I don’t have a clear image of exactly how he will react? (Also I can’t believe I didn’t realize you were the one who wrote From One Age to Another, which is the fic that got me shipping Gimli and Legolas in the first place, sooner)

Awwwww, thank you so much! I am still superly duperly fond of my first Gigolas one-shot, I am very happy you enjoyed it! FUCK YEAH GIGOLAS.

Weeeelll, yep, Dori is totally a mother-hen. I don’t like portraying him as controlling or dictatorial, though. So: expect fussing, but not threatening behaviour or forbidding Ori to see Bifur, or any of that sort of thing. 🙂

do you happen to know the origin of the trope where the ‘Ri family is a bunch of solid gold hotties? it’s one of my favorites, and you’re one of the only tolkien fandom blogs I follow! just wondering if you knew(/if you like it too!)?

I sure do!

I have NO idea where that trope came from, but I like it a lot. My particular headcanon is that of the three brothers, Dori is in fact the blinding beauty.

(it might have arisen from the fact that Dori’s build, facial features and costume are the most stereotypically ‘fantasy Dwarvish’, possibly)
