Wow!  It’s been a while since I posted anything, and I feel like I owe you all an explanation!  In September, I got my first studio job and moved across the country, so since then my life has been insanely busy!  Things are finally starting to settle down enough that I have time to finish the personal work I start, so expect to see more from me from here on, and thanks to everyone who stuck with me!  You guys are awesome.

Now let’s talk about Dwarf women.  Recently I decided to take on the task of designing dwarf women who didn’t just feel like little humans, who could be considered attractive, and who also have beards-  because Dwarf women really really should have beards, even if it’s just a little.  Over the course of designing them I considered that probably the main reason Dwarf women are so rarely portrayed with beards is that in our society, beards are a sign of masculinity and being women, they are often still drawn to appeal to our society’s sensibilities.  But Dwarves in fantasy are an entirely separate race from humans with their own styles and sensibilities and saying that their females shouldn’t have beards because it doesn’t appeal to humans is kind of like saying a bird shouldn’t have a beak because it doesn’t appeal to cats.  That all led me down the rabbit hole of thinking about what would likely actually be considered attractive in a Dwarven society– well-maintained beards; Solid, muscled bodies; dainty hands suited to detailed crafting, etc.-  all in all, it was a pretty fun and challenging project!

A dwarfsona commission for the lovely @notanightlight, who I cannot thank enough for being so patient with me.

Nota, I gotta say (and please don’t think this is weird) you have a-MAY-zing lips. They were so fun to draw. I also thought I might experiment a bit and gave you a fish-tail braid. I think it gives you a very unique look; I think it looks pretty damn dandy.

I also included a Singer’s Stud in your lip, which is a headcanon that I borrowed from the awesome @determamfidd (though you probably know that already) that denotes a Master Singer (which, you are).

In honour of my recent nose piercing, here’s the fiery ruby Gimris from @determamfidd ‘s Sansukh (now you know who sent that ask about piercings :D). I must say I really, really love painting red hair.

(Also I’m not sure what kind of nose jewel she actually wears in the story so I may or may not have used my own nose stud as a reference.)

The wonderful determamfidd commissioned me to draw her Sansukh OCs Genild and Beri (Aka Jeri’s Mums!!!!). Words cannot express how pleased I was to get to draw older lady dwarf wives. I also cannot express how grateful I am to have Dets tell me things like ‘run wild; I trust your designs’. Talk about making me feel good about myself.

The greatest challenge of this was trying to figure out how to make Genild’s beard look ‘wiry’ in my style without it looking completely ridiculous. I think it succeeded lol. Then I made Beri’s beard super luscious to compensate haha. Beri’s beard is envied for miles around! Aaaahh I’m super pleased with this I hope you like it Dets! They’re also both veterans so I got to give them oodles of scars!
