Thank you for putting so many awesome ladies and lady friendships in Sansukh! It’s nice to see that not only are there lots of rad women, they actually interact with each other! And support each other!

It is my unashamed and total delight to do so, Nonnie. I am so fond of them all, seriously. The sibling relationship between Bomfris and Baris just makes me wanna roll around happily, as does Dis’ very different friendships with Orla and Thira. Heck yeah Dwarrowdams! 🙂

(my fave unexpected friendship is actually turning out to be Haban and Narvi!)

foxinsocksinabox:

Got very bored in the last French class of my university career, so I doodled a very serious-looking Dis from determamfidd‘s Sansukh. Will probably actually scan and line this properly at some point, haha, but for now please forgive the lines from my notebook!

ohHHH MY GOODNESSSSSS

she is SO GORGEOUslskjdflshjgdfskjhds thank you thank you!!!

Dis training Ereborians in the sword to prepare for battle.

This has been such fun to work on. Completely colored and detailed by hair with Copic markers. Colors tweeked in photoshop to compensate for my lousy scanner. (for detail please go look at the full view)

I had the thought that maybe as she got older her hair did the opposite thing than Thorin’s; Her hair becoming silver with little streaks of black left in it. That has to be the most awkward sword hold in creation. I am so sorry. Information on each mourning marks and beads is going under the cut because it’s the exact same thing I put on the lineart.

oh my GOODNESS. THAT BLUE.

Lace!!! AHHHHHHHHH *divebombs at you and clings like a homesick koala* THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Her tatts! GREY HAIR YUS. I love those streaks of black in her hairline! And the bitter lines of mouth and brow, arrrrrgh oh DIS.

*hugs you some more* THANK YOU.

lacefedora:

Dís lineart and detail shot. According to Dets she wears no mourning marks for her sons, instead she wears their beads on her lineage beads. ( I made it so she was wearing both sets on her lineage braids. Kilo is on the right Fili on the left.) Other mourning marks shown are Balin(over her right eye), Oin(left wrist), Hrera(under her ear), Thror( right collarbone), and Thorin (chest on the right). (Placements provided by Dets)

I was playing around with spread out motifs for Balin, Oin, and Thror’s marks. This is something that they do a lot on their clothes and weapons, so why not tattoos.

*sniffles* ohhhhh her mourning marks augh (and yes yes YESSSS AUGH HER BOYS she cannot bear to get her sons’ marks done, she never can. She wears their marks deeper than skin)

Her face!! I love the proportions and her eyes and nnngh oh my GOODNESS lace, the detail on her pattern-shaved beard and her beads!!

*tackleglomps you* THANK YOU!

lacefedora:

It’s Dis! I have been working on this thing for daaayyysss. I kept having to tweek the sketch to make her proportions more dwarven. Determamfidd was kind enough to help me with the mourning mark placement on her. and despite the fact that you can’t see it on her(should be over her heart but her arm and hair is covering it) you can see Vili’s mourning mark (slightly cropped off sorry) up there in the corner. Now to ink and color!

sjdgfjahsdfajagkdjahga LACE SHE IS GORGEOUS

THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH!

christmashippo:

Yay, more Narvi!

This is really just an attempt to decide what some of her tattoos look like (and figure out how to paint darker skin).
I fell in love with determamfidd’s concept of “mourning-marks”, tattoos honoring dead friends and family, hence why Narvi has the Star of Fëanor on her back.
I’m not entirely sure about the others (I definitely need to redesign the sun), and I’m sure she has more than the ones I’ve drawn here, but I’ll get to them later.

AUGH NARVI

AUGH MOURNING MARKS

AUGH IT IS SO BEAUTIFULLLL AND SAAAAAAAAD

I have a few Hrera-related questions. When and how did she die? Did she and Frís watch the Azanulbizar battle, and how did they react? What did she and Thror say to each other when he showed up in the halls? (I also apologize for the feels and angst this ask might bring you or anyone else).

Meet a Dwarrowdam: Hrera

A painfully upper-class Dwarrowdam from the Broadbeam ruling family, the Line of Telphor. Hrera is a silversmith known for her small and detailed work. She was wed to Thrór, King under the Mountain, in a match arranged by her father and the Council of Erebor. She moved to Erebor when she was barely eighty, and yet it didn’t frighten her in the least. Prim, proper and careful with appearances, Hrera enjoyed ceremony and tradition. She was never afraid to speak her mind, and thoroughly disapproved of “all this Longbeard stoicism”. In fact, she thoroughly disapproved of practically everything – except her grandchildren. She had dark brown hair and hazel eyes, and a rather fanciful beard with diamond beads plaited into it like water-droplets hanging from a branch. She had one child, Thráin. Hrera was killed when Smaug attacked Erebor in 2770 TA.

When Thror finally fell to Azog’s blade, Hrera waited impatiently in the hall before the selpuchre doors. The minute they cracked open, she actually picked up her skirts and raced inside, heedless of her dignity for the first time in her existence.

There upon the cold stone floor she found her husband, face in his hands.

Hrera did not speak, but simply held Thror close at last. After all his terrible tragedies, he had finally come back to her. Wounded, yes. But he would heal, and she would help. She would see to it.

When Thror’s tears had abated somewhat, she finally murmured, “your braids are a wreck.”

That prompted a new rush of tears from Thror – but he was half-smiling this time.
