I recently came up with a headcanon that dwarves can make crystals of any colour glow. Very efficient in deep caves and/or cave-ins where fire could eat precious air. The reason Arkenstone was so precious was because it shone on its own. But the glowy ability works only underground which is why no one else knows about this dwarven ability.

this week is passover and im having lots of modern au passover thoughts about dwarves. bilbo coming to a seder for the first time w/ thorin. bilbo eating too much horseradish at once bc he didnt know what it tasted like followed by suppressed choking. everyone laughing but also wincing in sympathy. etc etc.

I have to thank you for changing my perception on dwarrows that when I read the phrase”the gold lust of dwarves”(or something similar), whereas in the past I would not feel a thing about it but now I would cringe so much that I feel like I am being insulted personally.

It’s something that offends me too, on a number of levels. So, you’re welcome Nonnie – and I’ll strive to always keep working at dismantling and refuting that stereotype, bc it is bleh. It reminds me of racist invective, and its real-world connotations are antisemitic and just. *brrr* nope.

I got to the chapter in Sansûkh where they’re in Lothlorien and Thorin remarks on how Galadriel called it Khazad-dûm instead of Moria and then all I could think of was a Tumblr post like “Reminder that Moria is a slur :) ” and I started laughing so hard I’M SORRY
