About the half-elven, I think it was just the descendants of Earendil that got to choose between the elven or Mannish lives? The Valar gave him the option of a choice so he could stay in Valinor with his wife and then they extended that choice to their kids, grandkids, and so on. I don’t remember a mention of any other half-elf descendants getting to choose. I don’t have my Silmarillion on hand to check, but that’s what I remember. I may be mistaken. :D

AHHHH, cool! I can’t remember right at this moment, but that’s ringing a bell (faintly!) somewhere in my head… yeah, so – anon from previous ask! Some info for you!

(also, this means I have even less of a clue as to where a half-elf, half-dwarf would go after death…!)

Never Again

fae-of-the-rose:

Small ficlet inspired by determamfidd ‘s Narvi and Celebrimbor headcanon posts and therefore also inspired by “Sansukh”. You don’t need to read the fic to understand this, just know that Narvi is female here.

Warning: mentions of torture. Nothing too descriptive, but it is mentioned.

Oh.

Oh that hurts so good.

Thank you so much, Fae, it is beautiful and thoroughly devastating. I love it!

Hi, I love Sansûkh and it’s gotten me thinking about, well, mixed-race children. I think in the area of Elves we might have an answer, if the child chooses mortality they got to their mortal side’s fate. So what about half-Dwarf children? What do you think?

Oh boy, this is a puzzler.

So, I am not sure, is the short answer. But I like that theory! Ah, Eru bless the Peredhil, they solve so many problems! 🙂

So, yeah – I am totally guessing here, but I think they’d probably be able to choose the same way Elrond and Elros and Arwen and the twins did/do. I suppose that if a half-elven, half-dwarven child were raised by Elves, they would be more likely to adopt an Elven mindset and identify with their Elven heritage more closely than with their Dwarven side. And therefore they’d choose the Elven allotted span/place in the Halls of Mandos (and possible? re-embodiment) over a place in the Dwarven Afterlife, and vice versa.

*shrugs helplessly* IDK!

heeey, I don’t know about about the silm because I haven’t gotten the chance to read it just yet, but in shadow of mordor celebrimbor has a wife and kid. I’m not trying to rain on anyone’s parade or anything, so sorry if it seems that way, but do you know if celebrimbor actually had a family of if it was just something he game made up? thanks!

Hey! I’m guessing that’s a Shadow of Mordor thing alone?

Tolkien Gateway tends to be fairly accurate, mostly. And it shows its sources for information, which is awesome. There’s no mention of a wife or child there (though it makes mention of the attraction he felt for Galadriel, from Unfinished Tales), and I’ve never come across it in my own reading. I could be wrong though!

christmashippo:

I spent almost five hours on this, what is wrong with me?!

Here, have some Narvi and Celebrimbor hanging out, aka “bffs judge people together” (and yes, that is its actual title). I love these goobs in all their different combinations: bffs, friends with benefits, cuddle-buddies, queerplatonic, romantic asexual, or the biggest romance to ever romance, but I tend to ship them all the way to Valinor.

I swear, it has taken me such a long time to figure out how to draw that stupid Noldorin prince, there are at least three different versions of him in my scrapped-folder! The only things that have been consistent are the eye-shape and that he’s a redhead, though the specific shade of red has varied as well.

The almighty Determamfidd wrote a line in a scene where Legolas and Gimli talk about tattoos (I think it was in one of the Lórien chapters) and Legolas mentions that some Elves use paint to adorn themselves. I sort of latched on to that and decided that make-up is totes a thing.

Also, have any of you noticed that when I don’t have a clear idea of the clothes a character is wearing my brain tends to go “PURPLE!!!”?

I might shade this later. Or not. We’ll see.

OH CHRISTMASHIPPO THANK YOU SO MUCHHHHHH!

Gosh, they’re GORGEOUS (elves in makeup YASSS). I am sure I mentioned how much I ADORE Narvi’s hair! LOOKIT THAT NOSERING, that is awesome!

I LOVE IT I LOVE YOU

So now I’m starting to wonder, what were Laerophen and Laindawar doing while Bilbo and the company were escaping the barrels?

Laerophen was in the library most of the time, to be honest. He was very surprised to hear (afterwards!) that there had apparently been dwarves in the dungeons. Oh.

Laindawar was on patrol in the eastern reaches of Mirkwood. He was killing spiders when a messenger came racing through the forest to tell him of the muster of the Elves and the march upon Erebor. He nodded, but did not speak. Catch him leaving the Greenwood? Not likely. He would stay and ensure its safety. No citadel of the Dwarves, not even the fabled treasure of Thror, could entice him to leave it.
