Technically it’s just as “illegal” to sell fanart prints, it’s just that fans do it anyway, and a lot of the time the big companies don’t see/notice the transactions taking place and/or decide it’s not taking a cut out of their profits so eh why not let them do it.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh gotcha. That makes sense! Thanks for clearing up my confusion!

And now that you mention it, I have seen artist friends get their fanart yanked off their redbubble and the like. So sometimes the big companies do get narky about fanart… which, considering how obscenely rich they are, seems amazingly mercenary. Bleh to them, anyway.

I doubt they’d let a book with ~600,000 words slide either, somehow. I don’t want to risk it, I have too many responsibilities to think of!

So, personal copies of Sansukh ONLY it must be, either printed as gifts for no recompense, or made for your own enjoyment 🙂

For the ask thing I’ll do N I A ;)

Hi Nina! *hugs*

N: Is there a fic you wish someone else would write (or finish) for you?

If anyone would write a Gigolas opera AU, I would probably go INTERSTELLAR WITH HAPPINESS.

(but i beg: please, please don’t make Legolas amazingly kickass and competent, and Gimli as mundane and boring as batshit, pleasepleaseplease i am TiredTM )

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?

Nah, not really? I will read what I like, cheerfully and without guilt, heh. See you all in the Special Hell.

A: How did you come up with the title to [insert fic]?

For Sansukh, I thought of Gimli’s Dark-name first. I liked it so much, and thought it had a lot to say about the story as a whole, so I used it!

I had a HELL of a time finding the title for ‘Snowmelt’. Eventually I was re-reading my work in frustration, and one word stood out to me: “We are probably bathing in snowmelt.”

BAM, done, post, AUGH.

Oddly enough, it ended up being a really good title!

‘Some Other Beginning’s End’ was a quote – I was looking for quotes about firsts, because of the prompt! but I liked that one the best.

‘So Cloaked and So Crowned’ is a title that came out of nowhere. I can’t remember if it is a half-remembered lyric, or from a play, or WHAT. I can’t find it anywhere else, and so I am forced to conclude that it came wholly from the murky recesses of my brain.

‘From One Age to Another’ didn’t have a title until the very last sentence. Neither did ‘They Know.’

Irreconcilable Differences is one that had a title before I had a storyline! I wanted a divorce joke, heh.

A large part of me wants to ask EVERY SINGLE ONE PLEASE but I’ll sticks with DETS. (Though if you wanna do them all, do it. Please)

ILU POP THANK YOU ❤

Um, I’ve answered D, T and S, so here’s E! (I CAN’T FACE ANSWERING THEM ALL IN ONE GO – snippets is good!)

E: If you wrote a sequel to [insert fic], what would it be about?

If I wrote a sequel to Sansukh, it would be about the modern fanfiction Sisyphus, forever working upon a story that never seemed to end.

lmao, joking aside tho, I will be pottering in the Sansukh Appendices for some time, I think, but it will not have a sequel. The story is nearly finished, and when it is done, it’s done.

If I was to write a sequel to ‘Irreconcilable Differences’, though. Hmm. That has some appeal!

Possibly I’d write something about the Infinity Gauntlet stuff, when it comes out? I always enjoyed that TBP (it’s on my shelf right now, about three metres away). I liked the conversation between Hulk and Wolverine. ‘In our way, we’re both monsters, pal.’ Classic stuff.

I would also like to add more about Steve and the Buckster.

Possibly Stucky too.

My characterisation in IR of Steve is very influenced by the first Avengers film, and there’s been a whole crapton of meta and two more Cap films since then. I feel like I know him better these days!

I’d also add more friendship between Steve and Bruce, bc heck these boys have a lot in common.

Still Science Boyfriends, absolutely – I liked Bru/tasha and read fics about them before AoU came out. Then it came out, and URGH no – I completely disliked the ship afterwards. Which I thinks says that fic writers are better at writing both characters than Joss Whedon, frankly.

And developing the nascent relationship I left Natasha and Clint in at the end of IR could be fun.

  • If you sometimes feel like it was pure, ridiculous hubris that you ever started a story that would take so much work and persistence to finish, I promise you, you’re not alone.
  • If you feel like you’ve already been writing forever and the “good bits” are still ages away, you’re not alone.
  • If you’ve been stuck for days or weeks or longer because you know what happens later but you don’t know what happens next, you’re not alone.
  • If you’re desperate to squeal about your beloved OTP but you feel like you can’t, because spoilers, and it’s driving you nuts, you’re not alone.
  • If you feel like you’ll never finish and you’re bound to fuck it up somehow, you’re not alone.
  • If you wonder if you’ve sabotaged yourself because who’s going to click through to a 28 chapter WIP, you’re not alone.
  • If you feel like you’ve been pouring your life into a single story for ages and will be for ages still and you don’t know why anymore because hardly anyone seems to care, you’re not alone.
  • If you can hardly even plan the further-away parts of the story or even think about them because thinking about them reminds you how absurdly far you still have to go and you get massive anxiety, please believe me.  You are not alone.

@angels-are-robots

Dear longfic writers

  • I fucking live for your work. Like I love me a little one-shot or a medium-length fic but srsly give me that 100k+ (200k? 300k? yes pls) goodness.
  • I am constantly in awe of your ability to stick with your story, to keep your plot moving and your characters’ relationships developing like just damn.
  • I don’t judge if your updates are erratic. If you’re worried about too much time passing between updates, just know that I and so many others squeal with joy when we get that subscriber notification in our inboxes.
  • There is literally nothing more glorious than watching characters develop through a long-ass fic. Relationships, friendships, character growth? Sometimes after I’ve finished a longfic or I’ve gotten to the last update I’ll go back and reread the first couple chapters just to see how far my babies have come.
  • If you stop updating your fic for whatever reason, that’s okay. We as readers are just lucky to have been graced with your story as long as you chose to write it. You’ve been gifting us with time and effort for this long and we appreciate it.
  • As someone who has had multiple longfic ideas and either (1) got through two chapters and gave up or (2) was too overwhelmed by how much work it would take to actually write, you are my literal superheroes.
  • You are brave and persistent and creative and a gift to fandom, and if you ever need a pep talk I am here to love on you.

I feel everything @rederiswrites said and adore everything @wrecked-anon added

@determamfidd

All my hearfelt kudos.

nnnngggh omg thank you @greywolf-sheera!

There are some very simple rules in the Halls that one should really abide by.

Words: 1252, Chapters: 1/1, Language: English

Series: Part 4 of Hair Like Fire

read it on the AO3 at http://ift.tt/2eiME2Z

THIS

IS FUCKING

HILARIOUS

oh boy, Droy, you utter fuckwit. Seriously, he doesn’t learn, does he?? DO NOT INSULT KHEL IN FRONT OF NARVI. DO. NOT. you’d think he’d have learned better not to be an insulting little turd after the first time..!

and the concept is FANTASTIC oh my god, there needs to be a list of Rules for the Halls. We have 6 now, thanks to your incredible imagination – these are total solid ithildin-plated brilliance! Thank you, thank you SO SO MUCH!!!

1) Don’t bother questioning where things came from. It was never going to get an answer.

2) Don’t fawn over Durin unless one wanted to get a solid headbutt.

3) Try not to bring up any large scale massacres in conversation if it was at all avoidable. Someone nearby was surely to have died in one of them and not all were well adjusted to this fact.

4) Mahal really shouldn’t be disturbed unless it was important. (Note that this rule was willfully ignored quite often by certain Dwarves who were looking to get something. Luckily, Mahal was so understanding.)

5) Holding grudges for things that happened in life was probably ineffectual so should be dropped… eventually.

aaaaand the 6th Rule? :DDD YOU GOTTA GO READ THIS. IT IS AWESOME!!
