Thank you, I’m so happy you’re enjoying it! Ohhh, I need to update the tags, thank you for reminding me. Yes, the endgame here is Faramir/Eowyn.
“One” is referring to the one time a Dwarf falls in love, but it has absolutely nothing to do with infatuation or admiration, or even a bit of no-strings fun in the sheets. It also does not have to be requited. It just means that a Dwarf will experience love once (if at all). So yeah. No pre-destined soulmates, sorry!
I’ve already established that Dwarves can have crushes. It’s not love. Bombur’s son Alfur has a crush on Gimli, aaaaaall the way back in Chapter 8. Also, Thorin had a crush on Mizim, and half the mountain has a crush on Dori.
Frerin has a crush. A crush the size of Erebor! But Thorin says it in Chapter 24: “His little infatuation would not hurt him, and to be frank, Thorin was glad that Frerin would finally experience that part of his life, too little and too late though it was.” He’s acting (for once!) like a normal teenager, because he IS a teenager: no matter how much time passes or how wise he gets, he is eternally stuck with his adolescent body and emotions.
*ducks flying vegetables* I promise, happy ending! I PROMISE.
No, Eowyn isn’t settling at all! Faramir is AMAZING. Faramir is a WONDERFUL person: brave and selfless and loyal and clever, one of the few who have faced the One Ring’s temptation and refused it. And Eowyn chooses him, it’s her choice! *hugs Faramir, poor cutie* And he and Frerin ALSO have lots in common – seriously, Frerin is going to be totally bowled over by him as well!
