           ‘The battle
was over, and Thorin Oakenshield awoke, naked and shivering, in the Halls of
his Ancestors.

The novelty of being dead fades
quickly, and watching over his companions soon fills him with grief and guilt.
Oddly, a faint flicker of hope arises in the form of his youngest kinsman, a
Dwarf of Durin’s line with bright red hair.

(Follows the story of the War of
the Ring).

 (Bagginshield, Gimli/Legolas) In which recovery takes time, the dead
members of the Company take to watching Gimli as though he’s a soap opera, the
living struggle with being left behind, Legolas is confused, Khuzdul is abused,
and Thorin is four feet and ten inches of guilt and anger.’

            Bring many tissues. Seriously, this fic is the biggest enabler of
hysterical crying that I’ve come across and will leave you heartbroken (one of
the recent chapters had me in complete hysterics, much to the alarm of my
housemate). This being said this fic is far more than just sad; you will laugh
through your tears and grin like a loon I can assure you- hint Thorin reacting to
Gigolas… not something I’m going to forget. Aside from the serious emotions of
this fic, I also adore the characters; I mean this is Thorin’s entire family,
plus the ‘what happened after’ story of Erebor. So grab a blanket, a block of
chocolate and a box of tissues and get to it!

For your good Dain rec list, ch. 117 of Dirty Deeds (Done Dirt Cheap) by greenkangaroo on AO3 has awesome Dain, and Dain/Nori at the end of the one shot. Although, one of the earlier one shots makes Dain a bad guy for reasons, but it’s listed in the tags what chapter that is so you could avoid it.
