Custard probs spends a lot of time batting at Hrera’s beard. It’s so sparkly and shiny and it moves when she does. Intriguing for a cat!

Hrera: NO.

(Custard probably likes attacking braids, too. They’re long and twitchy, they move about, and the beads and aglets that clasp them would also sparkle and glint. ahh it moves, it swings, gotta catch it and make it stop, aaaaaaah. Fili especially would be subject to this, I feel. Those moustache braids of his swing about an awful lot!)

How is the giant get-your-drink-on event that is the anniversary of BOTFA handled by people in the Halls in your opinion?

Depends on the people involved. I think there would be a big to-do on the anniversary of every major battle, really. Dagorlad, Last Alliance, Azanulbizar, BOTFA, all that. Some people would get megadrunk, cry, laugh, sing and fall over. Some people would get maudlin, or get together with those who were there and reminisce about stuff. IDK, it would be very individual, I expect.

(I think Fili and Kili would spend the whole day with their uncle, trying to lift his mood)

Fris will pull ears if she is exasperated! Tiny little Dwarf lady is not up for any of that silliness, thank you.

So I was going through old stuff and got the impression that Thorin and Dwalin have exchanged Dark-names but Thorin and Dis haven’t?

Oh, Thorin and Dis did… eventually. But it took until Ered Luin, and some semblance of stability. Dis was expecting Fili at that time, and she was clinging to her brother quite hard. There was a lot of drama going on (because of her relinquishing her place in the succession, and now expecting… what would happen to the baby?) and everyone was very tense and unhappy. 

But Thorin cared for her, reassured her – was the best Big Bro ever, in essence. And she pressed her head against his and finally told him what she was made of. And he smiled and received that name with love, and gave his in return. 

There were a few tears, that night.

Thrain and Fris are the proudest grandparents to ever proud. But really quietly.

Compared to Thror’s indulgence and Hrera’s fussing – absolUTELY. Fris and Thrain, in comparison, are a much quieter sort of Gran and Grandad!

Fris is a bit stern sometimes – no nonsense, please! – but so so tender and loving, omfg. And Thrain is just such a quiet haven. He’s the perfect refuge, really. He never judges, never presses. Just provides a safe place. 

Is messy hair a Durin thing? Like the nose and the angst?

LOL, the hereditary Durin angst! very accurate!

I don’t actually think so – Before death, Thorin’s hair was remarkably photogenic well-behaved. It’s only since his death that he’s been struggling with it!

Fili’s hair is lovely, as we all know. Thrain’s is enviable. Like, hellooooo sir. 

And Thror’s should be enshrined as hair-and-beard perfection, tbh. 

(I bet that this is all Hrera’s painstaking work, though…)

Even the extended Durin line we see in the films has hella hair. I mean, Balin’s is plain as plain – but pure white and absolutely lovely. Dwalin might be bald, but it is long at the back – also beard respect. Oin’s hair is FABTACULAR, curly braids ftw!! And Gloin’s – welp. Nuff said. My fave hot dad also has my fave hair and beard. And both are A GLORIOUS ABUNDANCE. 

And then, ofc, there is the fiery magnificence that is Dain. 

The only dwarf of the Durin line we see with fairly scruffy hair is Kili, I suppose. And even then it’s not scruffy-scruffy, more “movies-scruffy” (it appears that Dwarves do not frizz even in wet weather. Bastards).
