I cant tell you how relieved I am to hear that frerin will still like faramir when he and eowyn get together. I admit I was nervous. I love faramir & frerin, and so many fics often go for the trope of distorting a character for angst or conflict. You never do that and THAT is the reason I love Sansukh so much. The depth and truth of your characterisation is inspiring.

Ahhhh, thank you! I’m very glad to hear that, my gosh – such a lot of work goes into the character analysis, and it’s just… alsdkgfaljshfdsaljh when people say it shows, I’m very happy, thank you.

I am reaaaaally not a fan of love triangles. Blah. Also: OOCness for the sake of forcing a trope. Nope, not my cuppa tea.

how can anyone not like faramir for srs he’s as gooey about hobbits as his brother

Hi, I love Sansûkh, I get so in too it! So as Eowyn is Frerin’s One (which is really cute/sad), what will happen with Faramir/Eowyn? Sorry I just love that couple and it makes me sad that Eowyn would be settling for Faramir in a way? or do Ones get more complicated – I know humans don’t really have ones (So so sorry if I have the wrong end of the stick).

Thank you, I’m so happy you’re enjoying it! Ohhh, I need to update the tags, thank you for reminding me. Yes, the endgame here is Faramir/Eowyn.

“One” is referring to the one time a Dwarf falls in love, but it has absolutely nothing to do with infatuation or admiration, or even a bit of no-strings fun in the sheets. It also does not have to be requited. It just means that a Dwarf will experience love once (if at all)So yeah. No pre-destined soulmates, sorry!

I’ve already established that Dwarves can have crushes. It’s not love. Bombur’s son Alfur has a crush on Gimli, aaaaaall the way back in Chapter 8. Also, Thorin had a crush on Mizim, and half the mountain has a crush on Dori.

Frerin has a crush. A crush the size of Erebor! But Thorin says it in Chapter 24: “His little infatuation would not hurt him, and to be frank, Thorin was glad that Frerin would finally experience that part of his life, too little and too late though it was.” He’s acting (for once!) like a normal teenager, because he IS a teenager: no matter how much time passes or how wise he gets, he is eternally stuck with his adolescent body and emotions.

*ducks flying vegetables* I promise, happy ending! I PROMISE.

No, Eowyn isn’t settling at all! Faramir is AMAZING. Faramir is a WONDERFUL person: brave and selfless and loyal and clever, one of the few who have faced the One Ring’s temptation and refused it. And Eowyn chooses him, it’s her choice! *hugs Faramir, poor cutie* And he and Frerin ALSO have lots in common – seriously, Frerin is going to be totally bowled over by him as well!

Gonna try a munDain headcanon; he was quite the clever, sneaky kid, and since he visited Erebor a LOT and Dis was a Bamf cocky brat, the two of them were pranksters extraordinaire (cause we all know were Kili and Fili got it from) seriously, no one was safe. Obviously the siblings were usually dragged right into it, because Dain and Dis just KNEW Thorin were dying to get in on it despite being the older “responsible kid” and Frerin was half concerned sensible kid, half overeager puppy to get in

on the fun. Then inevitably Fris would hear of the latest prank (sticky glue on the throne/ in the crowns, epic food fights, piglets storming in on official meetings, shield surfing in the stairs …) and round up her small troublemakers in zero seconds flat – and since the Durins are who they are (Frerin crying, Thorin just staring ashamedly into the floor, Dis failing spectacularly at feigning innocence for all of them) Dain were usually the one who had to try and talk them out of trouble (he actually succeded 1 out of three times – he was almost as smooth as Gimli).
Then of course all the shit with Smaug and Azanulzibar went down and the remining three had to grow up too fast. I still imagine that Dis and Dain would remain very close friends, being the bestest penpals, trolling Thorin whenever the opportunity presented itself (partly for his grumpy overtights selfs own good but mostly for the heck of it).
And then when Dis arrived in Erebor again, they would help each other through their grief and Dain especially would be essential in Dis learning how to laugh again (because she needs it desperately, what hasn’t that woman lost omg).
And then. Once both of them arrives in the halls. Once all the shit with the Ring and the War is over. Once necessary big family talkshow are done. Once Dain and Dis starts getting BORED. Omg, the other dwarves won’t know WHAT hit them (except Fris because she saw it coming for weeks). Heck, I’m sure even Mahal got wide eyes when they pulled of some of the more elaborate pranks. And don’t you doubt they dragged Frerin along into their quest of getting their hands on that complete lexikon of the flower language. They got into a downright war over it against the Ri Brothers of course, because A) There’s no way Oris losing his major blackmail material over Thorin and B) Of course he drags his brothers into it. Dain takes endless joy in how horrified Thorin is over all of this (though Dis is worse than Dain ofc).
And now this is more of a Dain-Dis friendship headcanon than a MunDain one. Sorry (not sorry).

OMG THAT’S AWESOME. THAT IS JUST AWESOME.

*grips table until it creaks* WRITE. THE THING.

What is the peanut gallery’s favorite hobbit? Thorin’s is obvious enough but I’m betting that by the end Merry is Frerin’s.

(That last bit – AUGH OUCH but also spot on, yep. MERRY AHHHH, FRERIN IS GONNA FLIP HIS LID)

Welp, Sam is Fili’s favourite. Absolutely. He thinks Sam is the most sensible Hobbit he’s ever seen: calls him an ‘honorary Dwarf.’

Pippin is actually extremely popular amongst the watchers. He manages to impress everyone when he lets the brooch of Lorien slip – that’s a bit of cunning that Dwarves can appreciate. There’s a certain ‘Oh, you!’ attitude, along with indulgent smiles and shaking of heads that happens when he is around: Hrera calls his antics his ‘nonsense’, but for many of the Company Pippin reminds them very strongly of Bilbo. Of course, Pip is very young whereas Bilbo was not, but they were both hopelessly out of their depth when they began, and they both grew so very fast and very far. Also: Tooks and disasters. Heh.

Yeah, Thorin is obvs very fond of Frodo. He’s watched him for a LOT longer than the Ring Quest, after all – he’s known Frodo from a young tween, 21 years old, all those years ago when Bilbo adopted him. But he also feels rather protective towards Merry and Pippin (no points for guessing why aha more pain). He calls Merry ‘brave little laughing warrior’, and Pippin ‘little Bullroarer, child of adventurers.’ And then there’s Sam. He admires Sam: calls him ‘lion of the Shire’; ‘a lion under his soft skin.’ He admires his care for Frodo, his refusal to give up, his steadfastness in the face of nightmares.

Ori is generally amazed at how Hobbit eyes go all sad and big and teary. How do they DO that?!

Frodo is also very important to Thrain and Thror but for a very VERY different reason.

They actually understand (in a way that the others cannot) what Rings of Power can do to you, all unknowing, whispering constantly in your ear. 😦
