Thranduil somehow sees Legolas with his shirt off and notices that his son has a tattoo on his chest, right over/near his heart. It’s a dwarven symbol with letters around it. When Thranduil looks it up, it turns out that it’s Gimli’s family crest, encircled by Gimli’s name.
In Erebor, Gloin sees a similar tattoo over/near Gimli’s heart.

Since Hobbit Big Bang is posting at last, I can finally reveal to all of you one of the few podfics I managed to complete during the last month of dissertation hell: a podfic of @determamfidd‘s beautiful Gigolas story From One Age to Another, which describes Gloin and Thranduil reacting to the discovery of their sons’ relationship. This podfic is made much more awesome than it would be otherwise by @hobbitystmarymorstan’s amazing cover art (sorry, tumblr is not letting me tag you properly here for some reason). I drew a cover for Dragongirl’s podfic of Determamfidd’s “From One Age to Another.”

I was really taken by the vulnerability of Legolas’ situation, so, a pair of sleeping partners, miles apart.

And here is the amazing cover art in question, folks! Seriously, I am blown away by how awesome this is.
