hi dets! i’ve recently reread From One Age to Another, and i’m kinda curious about Legolas’ brothers in that fic. like, are they similar to Laerophen and Laindawar, what’re their relationships with family members like, stuff like that… any thoughts you’d like to share?

LOL, I didn’t go into the kind of detail on those brothers as I have for Sansukh’s Laindawar and Laerophen – those Elves were basically me playing with the idea of having Legolas as not-an-only-child. FOATA was me testing the waters in a lot of ways: it was my first LOTR fic ever, and I was experimenting a bit with style and narrative and characterisation. Those two Elves are the proto-Laerophen and the proto-Laindawar, really. They barely turn up for more than a couple of sentences, so I didn’t need to go to the in-depth lengths of character-building I spent on the Sansukh characters. Sorry I can’t give you more detail on them!

But Gloin being confused over Thorin calling Gimli his star and being like “Thorin NO he’s too young and too closely related to you besides I thought you were still hung up on Mr. Baggins!” and Thorin trying to explain that no Gimli is a son of his heart and yes he does love Mr. Baggins (while in the corner Frerin’s totally losing it as Fili and Kili pretend to defend their little cousin’s honor against their uncle)

Oh poor Gloin. *pats him* ILU baby. You’re my fave hot dad. 

(Nori is taking bets on what will get him to explode. Gloin is very clever and has mellowed somewhat with age, but he’s still himself!)

I made the mistake of listening to the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack while re-reading sansukh and omg. I know she’s singing about her father, but when Christine’s song, “Wishing You Were Somehow Here” came on, it made me think of Legolas after Gimli’s death, and his family having to watch him go through that, and GIMLI having to watch him go through that, and omg. Immediate tears.

OH MY GOODNESS I just realized that Legolas and Bofur are going to be brother’s-in-law?!?!?!? (I mean hopefully I mean I’m assuming that’s what Sansukh’s leading to). And Gimizh’s uncle and his elf friend Laerophen’s brother are going to be together?!?!?!? (married or whatever they choose but together wink wink) So clearly Gimizh and Laerophen have to be the best men at the wedding.

the number of Dwarves that are going to discover that they are related to Thranduil, it is sorta awesome hahaha

Okay so I couldn’t decide which one I liked more so you all get both. Leggy’s arm band says ‘Gimli’. (did I get my runes wrong?) I was going to put Gimli’s mark on him but considering the mourning mark tradition in Sansukh it seemed a bit off so I did this instead.(you may recall that band on Gimli’s lower arm says ‘legolas’ in tengwer from a previous drawing).

This took FOREVER. I inked the original drawings then scanned and colored them in photoshop without a tablet. Yeeeup my tablet is Dead Dead Dead. So other then the first ten minutes that I got it working this was all colored with my mouse. All. of. it. It was pretty exhausting. But I wanted more color control with this drawing and I just don’t have enough copics right now to replicate these colors with marker. (I really, really wish my tablet had been working so I could have made Gimli a touch hairier but c’est la vie.) (*weeps over tablet singing ‘amazing grace’ and other assorted funeral songs*) Making Gimli’s freckles out of constellation brushes was the highlight of my year, honestly. This is the first time I’ve gotten Gimli just exactly the way I wanted him.

Totally for Determamfidd and Sansukh. And Poplitealqueen because she asked for the sketch to be colored =D. ENJOY ALL (a nice surprise for Dets when she returns I hope lol)
