(ALSO – consider that Gimli wrote it when he was basically a teenager himself. This means he was that kid who makes up dirty little songs to make his friends laugh)

In response, Gimizh stood up on his chair and flailed both his arms madly, nearly pinwheeling from his perch. “Wee Thorin, don’t you dare forget me! I’m still your best friend!” he howled.
Wee Thorin only thrashed his arms all the harder. “DON’T GET INTO TROUBLE, GIMIZH!” he roared at the top of his young lungs. “I WON’T BE THERE TO GET YOU OUT OF IT!”
Gimizh kept waving at the Mountain until the tiny speck faded from sight. And even then, he kept craning back to look behind them.

When I read chapter 46, and got to the scene above, an image of Wee Thorin standing alone and crying popped into my head. it made me terribly sad. And then I thought about what conversation he might have with Dad. Wee Thorin is growing, and he’s no baby, but he’ll always be Dwalin’s Inudoy. And I think Dwalin, serious, stern, and with a horrifying diamond eye-would be the best comforter to his children.
I am weep. Thank you, This is beautiful – your Wee Thorin design is GOLDEN AND GODLIKE AND I LOVE HIM – that cusp of teenagerdom, nearly there but not quite he is so damn perfect! And your Old!Dwalin makes me blubber and sniffle. Because he FILLS ME FULL OF THE FEELS. God, he has learned, and the learning has been hard.
Yes. He would get it, ABSOLUTELY get what it means to Wee Thorin that Gimizh has to go away, and he would be such a good and understanding (if HELLA GRUFF) dad.

This is page 1 of a 6-7 pg mini comic I’ve put together. I was going to post it all together, but i thought I’d go ahead and post the first page (mainly because of my impatience 😉 since i only have the color of the comic left to do.
While this scene is from Sansukh, (how I interpret it from Erbor’s perspective, rather then with charming little Gimizh), the rest of the pages to follow are just a little scene that I thought would be bittersweet to play out between father and son—Wee Thorin, and Dwalin.

sorry Nonnie, I know this is a cute headcanon and all – but my personal feelings are that the Sansukh kids and Thranduil just don’t… quite click, for some reason. He wouldn’t be able to unbend or relax enough to be natural with them, and kids are astonishingly amazing at sensing that sort of thing. He’s also new, and if you know toddlers, then you know it generally takes a gooooood long while for them to warm up to strange new folks. Frankly, I 100% doubt Frerin would ever kiss him.
But that’s okay! Laerophen will pick up the slack, ofc, and he’ll be well-meaning and awkward and real, and they will run riot and fight and get into trouble and get their way and basically walk all over him and he will enjoy every second of it.
(yanno the Sansukh character who is THE championest champion of pebble-wrangling, the winner of the “good with kids forever” title? Baris 😉
I blame you, @determamfidd, for the urge that wouldn’t let me go until I drew this. It’s been ages since I drew anything (mostly because I’m not that good at it), but I just started my new job and it’s slow at the moment because I’m waiting on other people having the time to meet with me to discuss the project I’m there for, and I had a pencil and a bloc of sticky notes.
Which resulted in this (image quality sucks, I’ll try to scan it tomorrow)
Also, I had a question: in chapter 31, it is said that Gimizh killed an Orc with his broken lamp – yet in the latest chapter he tells Gimli he killed a goblin. So what happened? 😛

Oh – Orcs and Goblins are the same thing in most sources- Tolkien used the words interchangeably (in the Hobbit, for instance, he uses ‘Goblin’ or ‘Hobgoblin’ and not Orc) but uses mostly ‘Orc’ in LOTR. I like the word ‘goblin’, myself, I think it is a fun word to say and write! Plus it has children’s-fairy-story connotations. So I had Gimizh use the word to make him feel more childish 🙂
ALSO YEAAAAAAAH I LOVE THAT LAMP, stick it on a plinth and enshrine it for future generations, THE LAMP THAT KILLED AN ORC! BONKED IT RIGHT ON THE BONCE!
