You know, it just occurred to me that Gimli and Celebrimbor actually have a lot in common. They’re both jewellers, both in awe of Galadriel, both were key players in forging friendships between dwarves and elves, both are painfully loyal, both have a family curse to deal with, and I dunno why but I always pictured Celebrimbor as red-headed. I bet they’d get on like house on fire if they ever had a chance to meet. (Sansukh thought: Do you think sometimes Gimli reminds Narvi of Celebrimbor?)

I NEVER MET AN ANGSTY PARALLEL I DIDN’T LIKE

alkjsdhflkashdfal yes, yes, absolutely! (although I am so sorry to be That Person, but Celebrimbor is mentioned to be dark-haired IT COULD BE DARK AUBURN THOUGH idk, I am sorry to mention that)

Narvi thinks, now and then, in that strange what-if way: Brim and Gimli would be like those brand-new-but-instant friends you meet at parties now and then, the kind who always seem to know the same jokes and so tell them simultaneously in really loud voices.

(She watched Gimli as he built the Doors of Aglarond: all the arguing and hmming over plans, the frowning and pacing, the chewing of the lip, the sudden joyous bursts of inspiration.

It was like watching a memory.)

Gimli visits the Shire. Gimizh sneaks along somehow. They meet the ENTIRE Took clan. Gimizh is, to his horror and delight, out-mischief-ed. Out pranked. Out schemed, out-played. He must learn their ways. Pippin and Merry take him under their wing. Gimli is terrified of this team-up. Someone just hands him a pipeful of Longbottom Leaf.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh jeez, my brain cannot handle the idea of Gimizh + Tooks, it’s too frightening

(almost as frightening as the idea that Gimizh could ever, ever be out-mayhemmed, oh good GOD)

So I was re-reading the wonderful Sansûkh and various writings it inspired, and I had a thought: Just as Thorin is the first (probably only) dead Dwarf to be given some tangible connection to the living, Gimli is the first (probably only) living Dwarf to get some tangible connection to the mysteries and the dead. And that served some purpose in defeating the Shadow, obviously, but that wasn’t the explicit reason for which Thorin got his gift, and that certainly had nothing to do with Gimli’s

…when he rejoins living dwarfs, especially others known to those who have passed? Will it be obvious to them? Will he tell them? I don’t know how I’ve avoided asking these burning questions to date, to be honest. I was so caught up in the amazing drama of Sansûkh that I didn’t even think them until the One Ring was finally destroyed.

(I think I am missing an ask in the middle here, Nonnie!)

YES, that’s absolutely spot on! The first Dwarf ever to see into the mysteries, to know more than the living are permitted to know? is Gimli, (That Legolas knows also… and Aragorn… well, please refer to Oin and Balin’s attitudes there)

The reason Thorin got his gift? the pity of Mahal.

The reason Gimli grows to hear him so clearly? Practice and proximity.

And yeah, their connection does has a role in the Ring War in Sansukh, definitely! BUT it was not the intent behind Thorin’s Gift, not at all. (of course, Irmo had to meddle… :DDD )

Oooh, I am guessing a little bit here – but yes, I believe the changes in Gimli will be immediately apparent to those who know him well. Whether they can guess why he has changed, and what those changes are, depends entirely on how perceptive they themselves are. For example: Gimris and Mizim are both quite perceptive, but uh. Bomfris. Is not.

We’ll find out how much Gimli tells when we get there, Nonnie! *hugs* thank you, this was an amazing ask, thank you so very very much!

HAPPY DAY OF BIRTH!!!! Maybe one day after the whole thing is over and Gimli and Legolas are married (AS WELL THEY SHOULD BE), they’ve been traveling for a while and it’s Gimizh’s birthday and he wishes out loud on his candles that Uncle Gimli and Uncle Legolas could be there and then there’s a “What an interesting wish there, lad” “Indeed, meleth nîn” from behind him and suddenly Gimizh is in this giant hug with his uncles and there are tears and everyone is happy and the party is a huge hit

everything about this is just *heaves a happy, teary sigh* oh, thank you.

Gimizh is in Mina’s Tirith and the Rohirim just ferociously adopt him. Eowyn is all <3 tiny dorf babbu since she met him when he was following Gimris around. Eomer is all!!! Tiny Gimli!! And there is cuteness, because Gimizh decides that Eomer is Good People. Gimizh also sneaks Faramir candy because he is sad.

OH MY GOSH THOUGH

Gimizh deciding that Eomer is a Top Bloke and Good Sort means…

yet more competition between Gimli and Eomer hahahahaha
