Frerinith tries so hard to cheer Dis up when she’s down. The hugs and cuddles and sloppy kisses are always nice. His tried-and-true last resort method is to take out his half-eaten piece of honey candy and shove it in Dis’ mouth. Sometimes he misses, and it ends up stuck to her face, beard, clothes or hair.

AWWW – good boy, Frerinith, you keep giving AunDish those lovely cuddles.

(”His aim’s getting better,” Dis comments one day, the lolly stuck in her moustache.)

I was reading LOTR (yes, I read Sansukh before I read LOTR or watched the movies, please don’t judge me) and when reading about Tom Bombadil, what do you think would have happened if Thorin had seen Frodo leaving the Shire, followed him and the hobbits to make sure they were okay, and ran into Tom? Would he be able to see Thorin and the other dwarves (since he could see Frodo even while wearing the ring)? I know Thorin missed the early bit of Frodo’s quest, it was just something I thought of.

OMG

whoa, I honestly… hadn’t considered that!

I do think that Tom Bombadil would have been able to ‘see’ the Dead Dwarf Peanut Gallery, yes. He’s tremendously powerful… but only in his little corner of Middle-Earth. The Ring holds absolutely no sway over him, after all…

But equally, the politics and tribulations of Middle-Earth do not mean anything to him. He treats the Ring like it’s a yo-yo. He certainly cares about individuals, and about ponies, and about his land… but I suspect he wouldn’t have paid much attention to the nature of the Peanut Gallery’s vigil, nor the urgency and importance they place upon it.

I think he could have used the Peanut Gallery as a captive audience for his never-ending ditties, tbh. 🙂

Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow
Bright blue is jacket is, and his boots are yellow
Up came Dwarf with his sour face on
And Tom he sang til the Dwarf was gone!

At some point after Vili dies, Thorin finds a perfumer who sells the cheap (but nice) lemongrass pomade that Vili used. He buys a bunch and secretes it in Dis’ room.Dis finds it and 100% cries. She puts some on her pillow so it smells a little of Vili. Thorin makes sure she never runs out. Post-Botfa, the various Durin cousins continue this tradition. Gimli is responsible for sneaking the bottle into her rooms.

Oh jeez, and scent is such a superhighway to memories, and nnngh

ooohhhh I love it, it’s perfect – augh and also thank you Nonnie!

Frerinith has a sleepover with Dori and Dori is doing his morning routine and Frerinith is all “me too!” and so Frerinith goes about his day with a baby approximation of Dori-hair and Dori-makeup. He looks fabulous. (This happens often enough that Dori commissions Frerinith a set of clothes that are toddler-versions of his favorites so they can be totally matchy-matchy. It’s adorable, the dapper old fellow and the little kid, Frerinith following Dori around and trying to help.)

Dori and mini-Dori.

*clutches heart and keels over*

So all of Dwalin’s kids have some stuff that related to their namesake. Wee Thorin has a set of (nicely decorated) combs and brushes that Dis made for Thorin Oakenshield for his 175th and can’t bear to look at anymore. Balinith has some of Balin’s books and use of his favorite armchair. Frerinith has some of Frerin’s toys. He especially likes the blocks, spending hours piling them in pretty patterns.

I made sad whimpery gaspy sounds all through reading this, Nonnie.

Ohhhhhhhhh ❤

schools in Erebor have each class go on a visit with the king once a year. visiting days are some of Dain’s favorite days, and he gets the quietest, shyest person in the younger classes to pretend to be him. The older classes have to form mock-committees and courtrooms and pretend to be the nobility and such. It is never not adorable. The day always ends with a visit to the pigs.

I AM WEAK FOR THE IDEA OF DWARVEN SCHOOL-TRIPS AND FUN AND SILLY AND BRILLIANT EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES (NOW WITH ADDED DAIN AWESOMENESS AND PIGS) YES PLS

I’m having feels about all the fave characters repurposing stuff after the Mountain’s reclaimed. Wee Thorin sleeps in Balin’s old crib, which is freshly reupholstered with a war-pig pattern. Oin uses his dad’s apothecary measuring set, with the one piece that Groin had in his pocket on the way out replaced. Dis gives the Stonehelm and Bomfris the royal baby jewelry, all Teary-eyed over the tiny pieces. Gloin uses Haban’s abacus.

THIS IS BOTH BEAUTIFUL AND SAD, NONNIE
