Dain totally breeds pigs in the Halls. There are other pig-friendly dwarves there, because in all the dwarves in the Halls, some of them must like pigs. They argue about breeding and training. Dain cuddles piglets and trains pigs and competes in pig shows. Pig racing. Thorin helps a bit -he makes pretty gear for pigs and feeds them a bit. Frerin also makes an excellent pig jockey maybe? Fris is like “what have you gotten my sons into?” But it makes Thrain and Thror smile. Also Thror riding a pig

This is absolutely adorable – but what is really leaping out at me is the words PIG JOCKEY

PIG JOCKEY

ohgosh, do they get brightly checkered outfits and little caps and sit with their knees pulled up high and OMFG PIG JOCKEYS

What if people in the Halls keep waking up with Custard in their hair? Thrain will regularly wake up with Custard using his hair as a nest, purring away. Fris has it happen sometimes. Thorin is sure that Custard thinks his hair is Best For Naps, considering how often he wakes up with a cap draped on his head. Thror goes down for a nap and finds his beard full of kittycat when he wakes up.

This would totally be the opposite of a problem, for me i love cats

I’m fairly sure that Fili has had enough of Custard waking him by batting at his moustache, though… 😉

Serious Question Time: How many times has Gloin said some version of “No, Gimizh, we’re not allowed to play with toy ponies on the Council table. Or on the filing cabinets. Under the Council table is fine, as long as there’s no yelling.” Dain just loves it. He has a stash of toys kept in the Council chambers for kids with members to play with – ostensibly to keep them busy, but also because it’s refreshing to go and play with the littles during break times.

Gloin would have probably said ‘No, Gimizh’ a zillion gigajillion times… and then would have watched indulgently as Gimizh proceeded to do whatever it was anyway, all the while remarking upon his grandchild’s skill and cleverness and boldness. BC Gloin is suuuuuch a soft grandpa. The very softest and fluffiest.

PPPFT DAIN WOULD.

Does Mahal ever get really angry or disappointed with his dwarves? If a dwarf who stole or harmed others stood before him, how would Mahal act?

Of course Mahal would get disappointed in his Dwarves, though I feel he has a certain indulgent attitude towards them… but still, I doubt that for instance, the Dwarves who killed Elu Thingol got re-embodied in the Halls somehow.

Mahal obvs doesn’t mind a bit of petty larceny and theft, though. I mean, Nori’s still there! But those who commit grievous and premeditated harm, those who are actually malicious, doing evil with full intent and enjoyment, yes… I don’t think Mahal would have any time for them at ALL.

I also think that Mahal doesn’t really get ANGRY-angry easily… the guy is impatient, sure, but he is also, as Tolkien goes to some pains to say, very humble. Also, as the Maia of stone and minerals and craft, his temper would run slow and cool, like rock… until it REALLY gets hot.

Then, of course – boom
