Greetings from the sunny southwestern United States! I surprised Ricky with a visit and, since we were in the same physical location, forced them to do a video greeting for the project together with a few minor updates on where we are at. It’s two and a half minutes of us blithering awkwardly you about how excited we are. Enjoy!
We’re still alive, we promise! We are working diligently on chapter three for you guys; this chapter is extremely involved (sooooo many characters and dialogue cuts!), and Ricky had major surgery that prevented them from doing much of anything (having one’s mouth swell up to twice the normal size isn’t very conducive to talking, much less recording narration). Things are picking up though, and we’ve got the chapter cobbled together in full.
We adore each and every one of you, and we are so, so grateful that you’re sticking with us.
Love,
Ricky and Heuristic
LOVE YOU SO VERY MUCH, TAKE CARE OF SELVES, PLS DO NOT STRESS AND ALSO MAY THERE BE WONDROUS WONDROUS FOODSTUFFS THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY. (recover and rest, k ricky? *hugs*)
Tell you what. Here’s the number-crunch for all characters:
Alrís: 27 Auditions
Aragorn: 38 Auditions
Barís Crystaltongue: 48 Auditions
Bifur: 13 Auditions
Flói: 8 Auditions
Frar: 10 Auditions
Hrera: 68 Auditions
Merry: 60 Auditions
Pippin: 73 Auditions
Thorin Stonehelm: 31 Auditions
Nazgûl/Witchking: 27 Auditions
(Some of these don’t match previous numbers given; I ctrl+F’d for the characters, but some of them were labelled differently so I couldn’t find them on the first go-round. These are the correct numbers.)
The second round of auditions is live! The deadline this time around is May 1st 11:59PM EST. If you are interested in auditioning, please fill out this form first, then find the audition slides. The audition slides contain not only the lines to read for each character, but also more detailed instructions about how to format your files and where to submit them.
If you have any questions, check out our FAQ. If you still have questions, feel free to e-mail either of the mods. We’re happy to help!
Since our first round of auditions, a lot of folks have asked us for tips on auditioning. We’re not going to tell you how you should read, but here are some things to bear in mind if you’re thinking about trying out:
1. Be willing to be cast
This means that if you are auditioning for a character with a lot of lines, make sure that you can commit to meeting the deadlines the mods set for each chapter and to sticking it out for the duration of the fic. If you are cast, we also ask that you be gracious and considerate to your fellow cast members, to those who have not been cast, and to yourselves.
2. Be willing to not be cast
The worst part of working on this wonderful project for us as mods is the fact that we have so many talented people clamoring for parts and a limited number of roles that we are casting each time. We need to pick one person for each character. Casting is a difficult process, and when we cast someone, it’s not because those who were not cast are not gifted performers or that we did not like their voices.
As much as we try to emphasize this, we also understand that it is very disappointing to try out for something and not be cast. So if you are thinking of auditioning, you must be emotionally prepared to not be cast. More than anything, we want y’all to take care of yourselves.
3. Be sure to check the context of the audition slides
While we nicely provide the lines we will be asking you to read on the audition slides, you’ll definitely want to read (or re-read) the chapter in which they appear in the fic. Understanding the context in which the lines are uttered will help ground your performance. 🙂
Most of all, have fun. We are so excited to hear everyone, and we love you all. Good luck!
EVERYONE! ROUND TWO AUDITIONS!

~Breaking News From The Sansûkh Recovery Ward! Feels Victims Hearing Voices!~
A new symptom of “feels” has come to light! Some victims may hear voices. Several victims report hearing hundreds of voices repeat the same phrases over and over again. Is there no hope of a cure?
