Probably gonna make the over-sleeves eventually anyway. THEY’RE SO ELIZABETHAN. I have a heckload of faux-fur left over from a production a few years ago. It’s going to come in useful now! I can attach them or not, depends on if the dress becomes too ‘busy’.

ugh @morvidra yeah, bronze IS tricky – though I am p good at dyeing and heavy lace picks up colour p easily, so if I must, I must. i have also just ordered a shitton of sari trims off ebay pffft what stupendous impulse control
I’m going cheap as chips with the actual dress materials, to make up for the expense of all the trims, beard, etc. Op shops and charity stores, SHOW ME YOUR CURTAINS AND DONATED QUILT COVERS. 😀
must also get crappy boots that I can murder gleefully (I KNEW THAT PLEATHER WOULD COME IN HANDY ONE DAY DAMMIT. And they scoffed at my pack-rat ways!!! *maniacal laughter*)
Good thing I don’t have to buy the materials for the corset! I’ve also got most of the necessary beads and crystals etc (another past production, lmao!!) in deep blue: just need to pick up some bronze ones and I’m good. I’ll be haunting Spotlight and the bead shops for THAT.
Now, do I want to be a lazy bum and buy a cheap-ass bridal petti, or make a new one from scratch? I have some white organza… but murrrrrrr *pulls faces* IDK. I’ll see how I feel about it one month in.

3) I got my beard from here: https://shop.maxwigs.com/collections/lacey-costume/beards – I think I got the 10in in strawberry blonde, which is just a little more red than my own hair, and I trimmed the shape of it just a little bit. These are great quality human hair beards! (Well, the lace fronts. It’s obvious which of the beards are the good ones from the pictures XD)

2) I’m covering an old one! I am not so hardcore as you, making your own. I found a cheat’s guide for an Elizabethan gown, using a pre-existing boned top or corset here at Hathaways of Haworth!!!
The corset I’m using is ANCIENT, last used for my yr12 formal. I was 17 years old! Fast forward exactly 17 years (and one child) later, and it still fits! WOOHOOOOOO. This is why I never throw anything out 🙂

Bonus: I know you can barely see them, but in my apron pocket are a hand-carved pencil and a woodworking file as props 😉

laskdhgflajkh!!! holllllyyyyyyyyyyyy you look INCREDIBLE! all that detail, her beard BEARD BNEARD BEEEARD i love her shoes and her arpron and OH GODSH I WANT THE PANTS AND COAT AND CORSET and guh the silhouette? Is perfection? Itself???? jeez, i am making stupid guppy faces at the screen here Houkakyou I mean it, it’s GOBSMACKING – CAPSLOCK INDUCING OK – this level of skill and dedication and WORK is just – how HOW do I say how amazing this is, I cannot, no words, you have just won the entire world.
It’s pinned on instead of glued and my glasses are wrong, but this is pretty much the look! I’m considering bringing the four middle pieces into a four-strand braid and then sewing in some beads, but this will do for now.
(I really hate working with hair, and beard hair in particular is something awful (yes this is real beard hair) so it’s 50/50 on whether I pick it back up and finish it before DragonCon. 😛 )
4 hours, two x-men movies, and lots of pauses to watch mystique being badass. I give you: the complete and beautifully lined bodice to Bani’s tunic!
There is gonna be more boob in this outfit than I expected, oops XD but other than that it all went according to plan and I am very pleased! Next time I have a weekend free to sew I will finish up the skirt tail, and after that everything is just decorative. I’ve got loads of teal beads that need to go places and leather for bracelets…and of course, the beard. And the hairpiece, which broke as we were drilling it and is currently in glue-and-vise therapy. Ah, crafting 🙂
Received my custom Georgian style corset from Historical Designs
today! I can finally start sewing the tunic and apron that will go over
these garments. The chemise and bloomers have been done for months XD
Also, despite the drastic silhouette change, it’s interesting to note that my bust/waist/hips measurements remain pretty much the same as when unconstrained! It just looks super different ;P
*SQUEAKS IN HAPPINESS* ohhhh my GOD houkakyou, that corset is awesome, the colours suit perfectly with the pants, the undershirt sits so well (THAT SILHOUETTE!) Oh gosh, it’s all coming together, ljshdgfjsafda this is going to look AMAZING
Finally, the new Touya shoot is done! Sorry for the long post- I’m terrible at narrowing down photos, but in my defense, when they’re this gorgeous, can you blame me? XD It was a dream of mine to get to shoot this costume in the snow, and luckily, @houkakyou and I got the chance to do it after Katsucon this year. She joked that we both ‘leveled up’ since last year, and I would definitely have to call that true XD I completely changed my makeup for him and I’m so much happier with it now, and I have no words for how amazing her photos are ❤
(Also can we talk about us both freezing trying to get that last shot of me throwing snow into the camera with my bare hands? XD The things we do for cosplay >.>)
