So, I notice how chapters of Sansukh get successively longer and more detailed… D’you think you’ll ever go back and rewrite and extend the early chapters? (runs away with the speed of Bombur)

Uh, very likely not! I’m sorry if that’s something you’d prefer, Nonnie.

But tbh I want to get the story finished!

What’s written is written, it’s out there now. Plus, I am really loath to change anything about the earlier chapters now that they are being used to script the podfic. It’d make everything just wayyyyy too complicated.

If I want to fix anything, I will simply have to learn to live with it!

(I am thinking of it as a crescendo – it starts small AND GETS BIGGER AND BIGGER, hee!)

So I might have already let you know, but GODDAMN, THE IRON HILLS FOR ME. YOUR LYRICS THE MUSIC THE EVERYTHING PERFECTION. PER. FEC.TION. (and I cry every time I listen to any version of it.) I CAN’T WAIT TO HEAR IT IN THE PODCAST! THE GODDAMN IRON HILLS FOR ME. FOREVER. (yes, thank-you, very much, thanks)

sldkgfsljhgdfskjhgfsakha THANK YOU SO MUCH

It was absolutely a joint effort, that one! I wrote the words, the magnificent notanightlight composed the tune for the verses, and I composed the chorus.

and then I spent the next few days swearing at it in musescore lolol

Thank you Nonnie! I am so SO happy you like it, I am hugely proud of our efforts and of all the people who have recorded it. IRON HILLS FOR MEEEEEE ❤

What do you think the person who posted the prompt in the kinkmeme thinks when they see your fill? Because I think Sansukh goes above and beyond anything they could imagine.

Ahhh, I actually had a very lovely message from that livejournal user. They dropped out of the Hobbit fandom for a little while. When they left, Sansukh was only 20K or so long.

When they came back (after the third movie was released), Sansukh was around 300K … and counting.

I think they were a bit shocked, tbh. 🙂

on the upside, being away from tumblr made me so freaking productive I stg.

Chapter 37 wordcount update: 2K

(also – two new songs written! Instrumentation and harmony and all! *fistpump* After they have been posted in the fic itself, I will make the sheet music available upon request.)

Edit: Welp, the only song that has *published* sheet music so far is ‘The Iron Hills for Me’ – if you would like it, send me a message with your email and I will zip it on over to you!

The two new songs, though (one is a vocal piece, the other is instrumental) I will be keeping under wraps until I have used them in the story. Soooon! 🙂

Hi! Firstly I just have to say that I love your fic to death, I literally could not stop reading it for hours on end! Also, you are an Aussie and I feel really proud when I find Australians doing wonderful things! Now, I just wanted to ask you what made you start your fic, and also how did you get the confidence to actually post it? (Obviously you’re an incredible writer, but I just wanted to ask anyway.) I am working on a fic myself and I am so nervous about it :(

AWWWWW THANK YOU!

Also – hey fellow Aussie! Greetings from the Goldie! 😀

Ooooh, well, Sansukh was originally a hobbitkink prompt, actually. I blab a lot more on my writing tag, ‘how does a Dets write?’ That describes in more detail how I characterise and how I plot etc etc.

Oh, uh, well! I have been writing fanfiction for around 15 years now! And yeah, the first few years were hellishly nerve-racking. But I got better, and I got more confident in what I was doing – mostly because I was beginning to eye it critically, and still like it. Sometimes it can be hard to like your own work when you look at it from a technical and critical viewpoint.

(Sometimes the opposite is true – that you can’t view your own stuff without being over-protective about it!)

You’re on your way, Nonnie, you’ll find your method! *hugs and hugs and hugs*
