WHEN WILL THE NEXT CHAPTER OF SANSUKH BE UP IM SO EXCITED AAAAHHHH I NEED MORE SANSUKH IN MY LIFE IVE ALREADY REREAD IT TWICE.

SOOOOOOON!

I have been having something of a hiatus, lately. First, I’ve been doing a fair bit of travelling… then work went bonkers, it’s all been piling up! I also had a bit of a scare recently. Plus someone decided to write a ‘review’ that was really just an excuse for bashing me, which really shook me up and completely sapped any desire I had to write at all. I’ve been lying low, but now I am taking baby steps to rekindle my inspiration and my fandom activities!

So yeah – I hope to have the new chapter (AW YISS WE’RE OFF TO MOUNT DOOOOOOOM MOTHERCUDDLERS) out very soon!

In the meanwhile, there is much gigolasy goodness going on (heh alliteration) in the form of gigolas week! I wrote two things for it: Both the Sweet and the Bitter (Arwen POV), and a Middle-Earth/Discworld crossover,

I Comma Square Bracket Recruit’s Name Square Bracket

what else, what else… oh, I also sang a thing! If you ever wanted to hear an Australian trying a Scottish accent whilst singing Golden Age jazz, your day has arrived 🙂

I do apologise for the long delay. I am spending today writing, though (and also hopefully singing as well) so there will be more stuff in the very near future!!

About-My-Fic meme

Tagged by the wonderful and incredibly talented elenothar! Thank you! ❤

1. Your favourite fic you’ve written:

Uhhhh, tricky one to answer… well, I am hugely proud of the work I have put into Sansukh. It’s easily (by a couple HUNDRED THOUSAND WORDS) the hugest project I have ever taken on, the research never ends, Tolkien’s style is so difficult to simultaneously emulate and tone down, the themes and characters are so dear and alive to me. I’m getting closer to my planned happy-ever-after ending all the time 🙂

But I have to confess that my favorite is Yours Faithfully, closely followed by Irreconcilable Differences. I loved writing them both.

2. Your least favorite fic you’ve written:

Hmm. Probably It Takes a Village – not because of the fic, because of the fandom. Glad I got out when I did.

3. Your most popular fic:

Sansukh, no question! (I thought it would be ITAV forever… then Irreconcilable Differences did so well, I thought it would be the most popular… but Sansukh has eclipsed them both! I am still in a constant state of grateful awe.)

4. The fic you wish more people would read:

Yours Faithfully and Twelve Months and Fifty Years – heck, all of the Appendices, really.

And also… possibly From One Age to Another. I am fond of my first Gigolas fic 🙂

5. The fic you most enjoyed writing:

IDK, this is a tricky question… some fics have just rolled out, easy as pie, with barely a pause (

Yours Faithfully, They Know, So Cloaked). During others I have gotten stuck at times (Sansukh, Irreconcilable Differences, Red Against White) but… I enjoyed overcoming it, in a way?

6. Your funniest fic:

Oh god, funny. Um. Irreconcilable Differences? Ruby Red Wine? Snowmelt? or Little Wild One? IDK, I am not exactly known for humour! I do sprinkle jokes throughout everything I write, however – even works that are more sombre in nature.

8. The fic you’d like to be remembered for:

*squints* IDK… probably it will be Sansukh, but I don’t ever intend to stop writing fic.

9. The thing(s) your fic contributed to fandom headcanon:

LOL, the Dead Dwarf Peanut Gallery? Eh. Probably the Halls of Mahal, or maybe dark-names. I have a hell of a lot of headcanons, I spose. 😀

10. First fic you wrote/published:

A terrible TERRIBLE self-insertion fic when I was 17. Read it again when I was 25 or so, laughed myself silly, and promptly deleted the monstrosity.

11. Latest fic you wrote/published:

Chapter 39 of Sansukh… if this refers to completed work, though:

Endurance

12. What are you working on now?

Sansukh Chapter 40! The behemoth must be fed!

I tag: poplitealqueen, themarchrabbitmuchymozzarella, scarletjedi, emilianadarling, bigmamagmotherfuckingbagginshield, alkjira, notanightlight, linddzz and fishfingersandscarves. Do the thing if you would like to!

i love sansukh for like three dozen different reasons but the one that’s on my mind rn is that the representation is SO. GOOD. like that one’s trans and that one’s agender and that one’s ace and these ones are gay and those ones are lesbian and look at all these awesome female characters and why the hell not let’s make narvi a woman too. more authors need to learn from that.

Ahhh thank you!! *hugs* You are so kind! It is very important to me to keep learning and trying. Tbh, when I began the fic (OVER TWO YEARS AGO, wtf), I hadn’t even dreamed of the eventual diversity I have in it now! It has definitely built over time, as I have learned and grown alongside the story. I didn’t set out that way initially, but I got better 🙂

(Nowadays my attitude can be summed up as: “Yes, more please. More and more and more. Different neurotypes and sexualities and genders and POC: build it richer, build it realer, build it deeper and fuller and more vibrant. Fill up the blank spaces of Middle-Earth with wonderful multiplicity, and if any tiny little bigot cries ‘historical accuracy’, remind them that Elrond’s daddy is a star.”)

Absolutely I stuff up now and then (as humans are prone to do!), but I hope to always keep learning and trying and growing. Because other humans deserve that from me.

(btw – I find it amazingly hard to imagine Narvi as anything other than a POC Dwarrowdam now!)

Some housekeeping stuff – and a question!

just spent an hour updating the masterpost(s). YIKES THEY ARE LONG NOW. Wow. WOW.

If I have forgotten a work or link, please shoot me a message!

Also, for some reason? Some of the art linked in Sansukh itself was not showing up… so I spent another hour re-entering all the links. GUH. Also – kazimakuwabara, ursubsfishfingersandscarves, lacefedora and aviva0017, I finally put in your fabulous works! Thank you so so so much, forever and ever. ❤

Now, to continue on my never-ending mission – to insert hover-text/mouseover-text translations for all the Khuzdul and Sindarin!

I am only up to Chapter 19. *whines* why is it so long whyyy have i no sense of moderation ahhh

(for those who haven’t encountered it before: basically, if you hover your cursor over the word, a translation will pop up, so that you don’t have to jump down to the glossary to read the meaning).

Quick question for any who feel like answering: would it be of any assistance to readers if I were to link to the footnotes within the fic itself? This post struck a chord, you see. I’m trying to minimise the possible problem of jumping to the chapter notes and then re-finding your place again in the story afterwards. Is this something that would be helpful?

Hi, Dets! I just finished reading Irreconcilable Differences (it killed me, by the way. I died, very dead, there were a lot of feelings, I might have luh… uh, L-worded it a little bit shut up Bruce), and I was wondering–do you write much in the Marvel fandom anymore, when you’re not focused on the glorious work that is Sansukh?

Hey Nonnie! Awww, thank you so much – I am thrilled you l-worded it 😀

Nah, I haven’t been playing in the MCU fandom for a little while now. I’m still a bit ‘meh’ following AOU. Perhaps Civil War will spark my interest again? IDK. I hope so! I still absolutely adore the characters: I’m just somewhat miffed at what has been done with them, I guess!

For now, I am pretty much consumed with the monster that is Sansukh. I’m right at the big climax, and so my brain just keeps chewing and chewing over it, trying to find better and better ways to fit it all together. Sometimes it seems to me that it’s managed to take on a life of its own! *worriedly watches it lurching down the hall*
