Now I just really wanna know what Harry Potter house you’d put everyone in…

I was only just talking about this! linddzz this is all your fault 😉

So, these are only my thoughts, and they do not stomp on or contradict anybody else’s headcanons when it comes to these characters, not at all! Thank you for asking for them, Nonnie!

Okay, well, we have Slytherin!Thorin, without a doubt. Loyal to family, willing to go to extremes to achieve an end, etc etc. Go read this post for lots of reasons! I like it so much.

Dwalin is the most Puff of Hufflepuffs to ever Puff. He and Thorin make the dynamic Slytherin-Hufflepuff duo.

Balin I consider a Ravenclaw, but with a bit of a Slytherin streak. He’s sly when he needs to be, after all…

Gloin – Gryffindor. SO Gryffindor. OUTRAGEOUSLY Gryffindor.

Oin – Ravenclaw. Signs and herbs and healing ahoy!

Dori – Hufflepuff. His brothers are basically everything to him, after all.

Nori – Slytherin. C’mon. Cunning and sneaky? Yeah.

Ori – Ravenclaw… with a giant-sized Gryffindor streak a la Neville Longbottom.

Fili – Hufflepuff. “I belong with my brother!”

Kili – Gryffindor. Reckless? Yeah, totally Gryffindor.

Bofur – Hufflepuff! He’s not all that brave, after all. But he works hard (and plays hard!) and sticks by his friends.

Bifur – I think Bifur is a Ravenclaw, despite the whole beserker rage thing. Look at the way he touches that little eagle-puppet. I can imagine him making clever and cunning little things, ancient words spilling from his lips.

Bombur – Hufflepuff as well, though he has a Gryffindor side nearly as big as his appetite 🙂

Bilbo – I was torn on Bilbo for a while. He could fit in any of the houses with a bit of wriggling. He is cunning and sneaky and secretive, he is clever and loves book-learning and knowledge, he values adventure and learns to be brave (in a pinch), and he is loyal, true and kind. But I have eventually settled on Gryffindor for him. Because nobody attacks a warg-riding Orc single-handedly without a healthy dollop of Gryffindor foolhardiness!

Dain – PUFF PRIDE BABY. Fair-handed, sensible, loyal and patient? PUFF.

Thranduil – Slytherin. My word yes.

Aragorn – IDK, I am in the air as to where to put Aragorn. On the one hand, he fits Gryffindor quite well. On the other, he could also be a Ravenclaw… (well, Book!Aragorn is a mine of knowledge after all)… Hmm. Perhaps he is the Hermione Granger of Middle Earth!

Gandalf – Slytherin. For obvious reasons!!!

Legolas – Gryffindor. INSANELY reckless, after all… and though he is smart and tremendously loyal, the Gryff in him wins out. (One word – OLIPHAUNT).

Gimli – “Faithless is he who says farewell when the road darkens” should really replace the Hufflepuff slogan, tbh.

Boromir – Gryffindor… though there is also an argument to be made for Slytherin there!

Pippin – Here we have the anti-Neville, the Gryffindor who is foolhardy and overcompensating because he isn’t sure he fits in. He finds his place eventually!

Merry – Hufflepuff. He’s scared a lot, but all he wants to do is fight for his friends.

Frodo – Ravenclaw. Frodo is learned. He speaks three languages, he writes his books, he uses and seeks out knowledge that he can apply. He is also clever as heck with words: the whole of ‘The Window on the West’ proves that!

Sam – Hufflepuff, the quintessential Hufflepuff.

Eowyn – Slytherin (I know it’s not the usual place to sort her… but she is ambitious!! And SNEAKY. And so incredibly loyal to Theoden, just… ARGH.)

Eomer – Gryffindor yo.

Faramir – Ravenclaw.

“I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.” He is wise as heck. Called a ‘wizard’s pet’ and known for disappearing in the archives… yeah. Ravenclawwww.

Theoden – Gryffindor.

Arwen – Hufflepuff. Oh, Arwen darling.

Galadriel – SLYTHERIN OH MY GOD. Artanis, Nerwen, the Elf who wanted more than the Gardens of Valinor and crossed the grinding ice to get it, who followed her family into exile, who had so much pride?

…

(Now for some Sansukh-characters!)

Frerin – PUFF PUFF PUFF PUFF

Dis – Slytherin.

Thrain – Gryffindor.

Fris – Ravenclaw

Hrera – Slytherin

Thror – Gryffindor (what the hell, Thror, why are you off to Moria alone, are you completely nuts)

Loni – Slytherin.

Frar – Hufflepuff

Jeri – Ravenclaw. Yes, Jeri has dyscalculia, but is also an amazing tactical thinker. Not all intelligence is book-smarts 🙂

Baris – Hufflepuff. She looks after everybody else.

Gimizh – SLYTHERIN. OH MY GOD YES.

Wee Thorin – Hufflepuff.

Frerinith – Gryffindor

Balinith – Ravenclaw

Laerophen – Ravenclaw

Laindawar – Slytherin

Thira – Ravenclaw.

Thorin Stonehelm – Oh baby. Here is a Gryffindor who has the most EPIC case of Neville-Longbottomitis ever. He has always hesitated when it comes to putting himself forward, always hovered in the orbit of all these titans of recent history. Nowadays, he’s finally, finally coming into his own at last.

Bomfris – Slytherin. She has a powerful urge to prove herself, that girl! And she is ambitious (though it is for recognition, not for power) and she is shockingly protective of those she loves.

…

Bonus round: Elrond is absolutely a Ravenclaw, to my mind.

EDIT: goddamn it, I forgot people!!! I knew I would, gah. Sorry sorry sorry. Fixed!

Why do you think Thorin is a slytherin?

linddzz:

ALRIGHT ANON AND FOLLOWERS. SIT YOURSELVES DOWN AND SHUSH IT ALL UP BECAUSE I AM ABOUT TO BESTOW SOME HARD TRUTHS UPON YOU ALL REGARDING THORIN’S HOGWART’S HOUSE

Reasons for Slytherin Thorin Brought to you by a Ravenclaw Nerd

-1st it isn’t because he’s “mean” or “greedy” or any of that saying he’s a “””bad guy”””” leave your slytherin prejudices at the door BYE

-Slytherin is often noted for cunning, ambition, need to prove themselves, resourcefulness, and, while it’s not outright said, almost every slytherin shown has an EXTREME dedication to whatever it is they do and often to close friends/family. The family pride thing comes up with a lot of Slytherins man and not just in the “pure blood” sense but in The Malfoys, The Blacks, things like that.

-One of Thorin’s biggest drives, especially within the movies, is his ambition and NEED TO PROVE HIMSELF to…mainly himself. He has a lot of other traits but a huge thing that drives him is this need to be what he needs to be for his people, to live up to his own legend, to reclaim the honor of his family and his kingdom.

-Don’t say Thorin isn’t cunning either. He makes some…less than wise decisions but holy damn that entire set up against Smaug that he came up with on the fly??? Lighting the forges by LAUGHING AT A DRAGON is kind of a super slytherin thing to do. Use the enemy’s power against themselves and all that. Throw him in a dire situation and Thorin is a schemer like him and Bilbo could be SO DAMN DANGEROUS iloveit.

-His “FUCK THE ENTIRE WORLD EXCEPT FOR THESE PARTICULAR PEOPLE WHO I DECIDED ARE MINE”  attitude is so….i can not even comprehend how slytherin that is.

-Like spoiler alert for everyone who is about to go “but he is loyal and therefore hufflepuff” Loyalty aint just a Hufflepuff thing. Slytherins show an EXTREME loyalty to something they decide is worth it. Slytherins are not selfless in their loyalty, which I see Hufflepuff and Gryffindor more being. They are loyal to either what helps advance them or what they are personally invested in. The Slytherin house sticks together viciously, they have a very “look out for your people” mindset and FUCK EVERYONE ELSE. Thorin is loyal to the ideals and legacy of his family, he is loyal to family itself and loyal to HIS company. He doesn’t follow the guidlines of anyone else but sets himself some very firm rules of honor (which is very important to dwarvish culture anyway but man does he seem to REALLY go for it until the whole uh…sickness misfortune)

-Also slightly unrelated rant here but tumblr. Tumblr. TUMBLR. Not all of your faves are Hufflepuffs. This is not at all directed at you anon don’t worry but godDAMN in every fandom do people love putting their faves in Hufflepuff. Like if a character is nice once or shows any hint of loyalty or like…works towards anything they are hufflepuff as if the other houses are the boring lazy charicature houses and Hufflepuff is the only legit one????? I know a lot of tumblrites are in Hufflepuff but SON you gotta give me a better reason than “well he’s loyal and works hard for a goal” like anyone does that. People do that all the time in any house. You gotta look at what DRIVES them and ok TLDR Hufflepuff is great but not all ur faves are Hufflepuff END RANT I APOLOGIZE

-Seriously though can’t you just SEE Thorin in Slytherin house being the guy who both has TONS OF HOUSE PRIDE and bleeds fucking green and silver but is also constantly in this weird internal and external battle against the stigma of his house??? He’s always striving to prove that they aren’t the bad guys and they’re more than the history says.

Imagine Kenneth brannagh as gilderoy lockhart as a fancast for glorfindel

Let me introduce you to your new Defense Against the Dark Lords teacher… me. Glorfindel, Order of the Golden Flower, First Age, Honorary member of the Nazgul Defense League, and five times winner of Noldor Weekly’s Most Charming Smile Award. But I don’t talk about that. I didn’t get rid of the Balrog by smiling at him.

australian wizards learn how to cast spells without saying the full spell because they’re lazy speakers

australian wizards are really good at non verbal spells because why say it when you can think it

australian wizards have highest rate of magical mishaps due to the experimentation of shortening of spell language

no you don’t understand this is not a joke they shorten everything they call breakfast ‘brekkie’

Hey it was never the latin language that was special, it was that they chose that language to teach the spells with.
