“Gimli’s bigger.”
“Well, Gimizh has cookies.”
“Gimli sings and dances!”
“Aha – so does Gimizh, muindor*!”
“He makes me laugh.”
“And so does the little one.”
“Mine’s more dangerous.”
“Are… are you sure about that?”

He sure will, and VERY soon! We are catching up with the Battle Under the Trees very soon. Thrandy and Laindawar are going to make an appearance… and we’re going to discover what Galadriel and her crew have been up to!
(Nope, no help here Nonnie, sorry – succumb to his awkwardface haughtiness and total helplessness in front of children!)
LOL, I didn’t go into the kind of detail on those brothers as I have for Sansukh’s Laindawar and Laerophen – those Elves were basically me playing with the idea of having Legolas as not-an-only-child. FOATA was me testing the waters in a lot of ways: it was my first LOTR fic ever, and I was experimenting a bit with style and narrative and characterisation. Those two Elves are the proto-Laerophen and the proto-Laindawar, really. They barely turn up for more than a couple of sentences, so I didn’t need to go to the in-depth lengths of character-building I spent on the Sansukh characters. Sorry I can’t give you more detail on them!
Look at this family of nerds. What a bunch of loosers!
Will redraw it digitaly later, so please exuse the crappy phonecamera for now. >A>EDIT 05-04-15
Updated with a scanned version. Now you can actually see them properly! 8D
*hugs you* Thank you, Nonnie. I am thrilled you enjoy the story.
I have very long-term plans for Merilin! We will be seeing much, much more of her.
Hmmm, I haven’t currently got any plans for an akio- or lithsexual/lithromantic character – but dangit, let’s fix that!
Okay, making stuff up on the go again, but here’s a possibility: I actually think that Frerin is most likely lithromantic & lithsexual. He is very content to admire from afar, but has no real desire to act upon his attraction.
And now that I come to think of it, I think Laindawar is most likely lithsexual as well. Huzzah for more ace-spectrum characters! Thank you for pointing this out to me, Nonnie – it’s wonderful to add more depth to these people and this world.
Laindawar: *first facial expression in two centuries. It looks all wrong.*
Laerophen: *confused and worried – and (very very hesitantly) hopefully happy*
Thranduil: *breaks wineglass stem in his hand*
Hmm. No, none of them are married, you’re right.
So, I am writing Elves as a slightly different kettle of fish to Dwarves. From Tolkien’s writings, it appears that Elves can all be considered demisexual to varying degrees. Sex can ONLY occur when love is present, and sex itself is the act of marriage.
Laindawar is very, VERY introverted. He has only really ever been close to one person: his brother Laerophen, to be frank. He likes his solitude. He is often mistaken for aloof, because he simply prefers his own company. He has never fallen in love, and doesn’t want or expect to.
Laerophen wouldn’t be averse to falling in love one day, but he is far beyond the age when an Elf customarily finds their love. It’s not unheard of for an older Elf to find love, but Laerophen doesn’t think it likely.
Legolas is also beyond the age when Elves are most likely to settle down. He was quite resigned to it, and was ready to be the Prince his father expected him to be.
WHOOPS 😉
Thranduil would have terribly mixed feelings over his sons’ finding a partner. His own experience has been one of great joy followed by terrible loss, and he would NEVER want that for his sons. In the films he warns Tauriel away from Legolas out of a sense of protectiveness rather than classism against ‘lowly Silvan Elves’, to my mind (though of course the classism is a lovely excuse to use – Thranduil doesn’t easily reveal his true feelings without a LOT of prompting or provocation).
So, a bit rambly, but there’s some of my thoughts, Nonnie!
Ooooh, I’ve answered this before, but in a really higgedly-piggedly fashion. Check out my Laerophen or my Laindawar tags! Also, here’s a bio on Laerophen, and some thoughts on Thrandy.
Laerophen was in the library most of the time, to be honest. He was very surprised to hear (afterwards!) that there had apparently been dwarves in the dungeons. Oh.
Laindawar was on patrol in the eastern reaches of Mirkwood. He was killing spiders when a messenger came racing through the forest to tell him of the muster of the Elves and the march upon Erebor. He nodded, but did not speak. Catch him leaving the Greenwood? Not likely. He would stay and ensure its safety. No citadel of the Dwarves, not even the fabled treasure of Thror, could entice him to leave it.
So, determamfidd, I know that Laindawar has techhhhhhnically not been introduced yet, but I got excited and decided to try drawing him anyway. Hope you like him.
OH WOW LAINDAWARRRRRR
He’s amazing! I love him, oh my GOSH, thank you so much! AW YISS ARMOURRRRRRR ❤
