Average Hours of Sleep: Depends. Anywhere between 5 and 7 hours lately, I guess? Which is a lot for me. I am so tired, all the time. So much work, so much hecticness, and Mr Dets is also away for his work so much – which means I am left holding the fort alone. A lot. So I am pooped 24/7. ~~being low doesn’t help~~

2: Do you have a favourite movie? TOO many fave movies. Waaaay too many.

3. Favourite type of character to write? Hmm, tricky tricky… I like writing introspective determined characters like Thorin and Bruce, but I also love writing crotchety characters like Radagast, or total grumps, or secretive and suspicious folks like Natasha and Bilbo… or brave and wonderful walking catastrophes like Clint or Pippin. I like writing repulsive whining narcissists (villains can be fun to write!) like Inorna, and smartarsed heroic idiots like Tony or Gimli or Dain… idk. I like writing characters, as long as they are people and feel real to me.

#1. “From One Age To Another” Gigolas, a ‘telling the family’ fic that was written from a prompt on the kinkmeme. Though my pacing is a bit… hmm, off in places, I think I struck a good tone with it. One of those fics that just didn’t have a title until I’d written the last line, and BOOM 🙂

#20: “Midwinter” A holiday-themed Sansukh side-fic, part of the Appendices. Written for the sansukh ensemble and most especially for @fuckthisimgoingtoerebor and @heuristicdevice. Three things about me meme

Okay, I gotta tell you three facts about me that people might not already know. Uhhhhh… *is suddenly the most boring person in existence* UMMMM.

1. Nerdy singing thing: I have 3 octaves – F3 to F6. (yes, I can fake a low E, but my word does it suck). I also don’t really have much of an upper break any more – so many years of teaching (and thus, repeating) the same technical exercises have sort of trained it out of me.

I can also belt up to a D5!

2. I started going grey at 14. Picture tiny noodle child (I AM A BONY SHORTASS, and was even tinier comparatively before my pathetic attempt at a growth spurt). Now, picture tiny noodle child with white hair speckled amongst the light brown. Yaaaay. I was already bullied: it just made it worse.

I dyed it for years and years and years. I was so ashamed. Bleached it, went dark, went bright, did rainbows (never again), shaved the sides, assymetrical cuts, you name it, I went a bit nuts for about a decade there. And finally my poor hair began to thin and become brittle and sad. So I stopped. I couldn’t even quite remember the original mousey brown colour… and when it grew out, I actually discovered that I had developed funky badger-stripes over my temples. Which. I. Love.

Anyway. I haven’t dyed since. It’s been about 8 years now. I am not ashamed of being a tiny noodle woman with grey hair – in fact, it’s a bit of a point of pride for me now. If my brother can go grey without shame, why not me? And my new cut is fucking kickass. I look like early Rogue from the comics… if Rogue was a tiny noodle woman.

3. I have had a hell of a weird career. I’ve always taught singing and music, but I have also been a legal secretary, accountant, waitperson, receptionist, performer, designer, choreographer, director, lyricist, bookkeeper, and since my DipEd, a classroom teacher (Music, English, History, Dance, Drama). That’s why, when I am asked, I tell my senior students that if they can’t decide or aren’t 100% in love with their first field or job or choice of study, not to feel pressured. They’re not missing out by not doing it all at once. They aren’t stuck. The world is weird and life is an adaptive thing. There is time.
