Merry Brambleduck – Dáin Ironfoot, Sansûkh chapter 37
Yup. There he is.
(OH DAIN)
lololol thank you Nina!
Ahhhhhh, Dain is a fun character to write – because he is so blunt and honest and funny, but he is not necessarily forthcoming. He is very, VERY smart – easily one of the smartest characters in the whole story. He is also very perceptive. He can conceal all of this behind his loud, bluff, good-humoured exterior. People don’t expect that savagely sharp brain: they expect a Dwarf like that to be dumb.
Last mistake they’ll ever make, lol.
Dain knows his cousin. He knows that Thorin tends to latch onto causes, and he knows that they always have huge personal significance to him.
So, Thorin knew a hobbit – and there would have been rumours about that floating around the remainder of the Company the whole time Dain ruled Erebor. Nothing explicitly said, just hints here and there, but Dain is easily intelligent enough to pick up on nuance. He’d know that there was something unsaid, something there, between Bilbo and Thorin.
Therefore, Dain would know that Thorin’s interest in these two hobbits must have personal significance as well. It’s not too hard to put two and two together to make four: particularly after discovering that Merry and Pip are Bilbo’s cousins.

“Reunion”
Since i’m sick i lucked out and was awake to see the new chapter of Sansukh!
There are so many touching moments in this chapter! I have a lot that i want to draw for it, but i decided to first start with Merry and Pippin. Pippin cradling Merry in the streets-what a sad reunion. ;3;!!!
the feet were a bitch!><;;; and i referenced the movie outfits to get the hobbits’ wears. :>
kind of a sloppy background but i messed up on layering…<<;;; it’ll have to do. I hope you like it :>

Hi Nonnie!
I think it would be absolutely fine (Pippin with a cute lisp! I think you would be wonderful). Don’t let yourself get discouraged!

Boromir and Faramir volunteer as mentors at the local
elementary school and have become fast friends with two lil trouble-makers
named Merry and Pippin.
OHGOSH, I was totally planning that, approximately one zillion years ago, as a present for the lovely flukeoffate. And I still intend to write it. Funny, I was just mentioning the whole ‘being stuck’ thing, coincidentally…

I WILL get to it eventually! But Chapter 36 comes first 🙂
Ahhhhh! Well, Merry was initially rather taken aback. We’ll go into further detail later concerning his views. But as we see before the Paths of the Dead, he’s totally on board the Gigolas Train, and in the most practical of Hobbit ways:
(Chapter 32)
“I hope so,” Merry said underneath his breath, and he let out a gusty sigh. “All right, go watch him. He’ll brood himself into fits if you don’t. Get him to eat more, it’s frightful how little he eats. And you two: sort yourselves out! I’ve known tweens better organised than you!”
Pippin’s attitude I have answered here.
(That last bit – AUGH OUCH but also spot on, yep. MERRY AHHHH, FRERIN IS GONNA FLIP HIS LID)
Welp, Sam is Fili’s favourite. Absolutely. He thinks Sam is the most sensible Hobbit he’s ever seen: calls him an ‘honorary Dwarf.’
Pippin is actually extremely popular amongst the watchers. He manages to impress everyone when he lets the brooch of Lorien slip – that’s a bit of cunning that Dwarves can appreciate. There’s a certain ‘Oh, you!’ attitude, along with indulgent smiles and shaking of heads that happens when he is around: Hrera calls his antics his ‘nonsense’, but for many of the Company Pippin reminds them very strongly of Bilbo. Of course, Pip is very young whereas Bilbo was not, but they were both hopelessly out of their depth when they began, and they both grew so very fast and very far. Also: Tooks and disasters. Heh.
Yeah, Thorin is obvs very fond of Frodo. He’s watched him for a LOT longer than the Ring Quest, after all – he’s known Frodo from a young tween, 21 years old, all those years ago when Bilbo adopted him. But he also feels rather protective towards Merry and Pippin (no points for guessing why aha more pain). He calls Merry ‘brave little laughing warrior’, and Pippin ‘little Bullroarer, child of adventurers.’ And then there’s Sam. He admires Sam: calls him ‘lion of the Shire’; ‘a lion under his soft skin.’ He admires his care for Frodo, his refusal to give up, his steadfastness in the face of nightmares.
Ori is generally amazed at how Hobbit eyes go all sad and big and teary. How do they DO that?!
Frodo is also very important to Thrain and Thror but for a very VERY different reason.
They actually understand (in a way that the others cannot) what Rings of Power can do to you, all unknowing, whispering constantly in your ear. 😦
