The Evil Overlord’s Classical Mixtape – Side B

so you’ve finished Side A of the Mixtape, you’ve ticked off everything in the handbook, but you need some more mood music for conquering the universe (or for writing a darkfic or battle-scene).

- Dvořák: Requiem
- Sibelius: Finlandia (VISIT BEAUTIFUL FINLAND, BRING ABOUT THE DOWNFALL OF CIVILISATION)

- Schubert:
- Copland: I Felt a Funeral in my Brain
- Massenet: The Tempest Suite, Ariel and the Spirits (angry Mutants, your theme tune, if you please)

- J.S. Bach: St John Passion, “Herr, unser Herrscher”
- Tchaikovsky: The Nutcracker, Battle with the Mouse King

- Bizet: Carmen, “Cards scene”
- Liszt: Piano Sonata in B Minor
- Liszt: Mephisto Waltz
- Liszt: Transcendental Etude No4 ‘Mazeppa’

All of these have been added to the Youtube Playlist!
Please enjoy as you work on your villainous laugh 🙂
looking around for pieces for Side B of the Evil Overlord’s playlist and AUGH
I have rediscovered Ross Edwards’ Symphony No1, “Da Pacem Domine” dedicated in memoriam of Stuart Challender.
If ever you want to weep hot tears of agony, listen to this.
if u don’t think music is important u need to remember that 13 dwarves convinced bilbo baggins to rob a dragon just by singing about it
so the Evil Overlord’s Classical Mixtape is currently going awf again, i’d nearly forgotten about that !
upside: Listening to the Rach C#m Prelude is as chill as I’ve been in AGES.
Additional upside: I’ve since found a few awesome pieces that I would totally add to it, if I were putting it together today… perhaps I should start compiling Side B of the mixtape? I mean, Lux Aeterna by Paul Stanhope HAS to be on it. C’MON IT IS DAZZLINGLY GORGEOUS/CREEPY.
Also Mironczarnia by Jakub Neske. DAT DESCANT.

Moved by heavy cogs and levers, slats of painted wood pushed up from the floor and shot out from the sides of the stage, a dwarven gate suddenly appearing in front of the characters, and a mountain rose above them. Bulbs set into the slats twinkled to life, the mountain gleaming with light.
Frerin gasped, eyes widening almost comically as he watched, and Thorin himself felt a thrill race up his spine at the sight. This really was the production of a lifetime.
one of two illustrations commissioned by the great Mim for our @yubiwamonogatari‘s Elbereth and the Seven Fathers, which is amazing, and you should go read if you like the Durin family and have good taste in fiction and also in life :3
WOOP WOOOOP!
LOOK AT THIS AMAZING PIECE OF ART!!! LOOK HOW LUSH AND GORGEOUS IT IS!!! LOOK AT THIS AMAZING LITTLE DWARF FAMILY!!!!!!
Thank you SO much, Ruto!!!! Your art is fantastic, as always!!!
is there any way you could make your lovely lullaby downloadable? it’s so pretty and you’re so amazing at music!
Ahh, thank you SO much! Here it is on Google Drive for you to download.
Let me give a bit of context for this one.
This is a super-simple lullaby my mother used to sing to myself and my little sister. My nan sang it as well. I have no idea how old it is or where it came from. When I hear it or sing it, these days, it comes with a massive flood of accompanying emotion.
I sing it to the Dwarfling these days. She says ‘shhhh’ between phrases, just the way I do. Just the way my mum does – and her mum too.
My little sister is about to have her first child, due on New Year’s Day. I wanted to give her and her “little pickle” something special and meaningful. She painted three beautiful pictures for the Dwarfling’s room before she arrived; they hang above her bed as I type this. I wondered, ‘what could possibly mean as much to her as that does to me? I’m no artist.”
So i decided to arrange the lullaby for her. I don’t know how well it works, but I DO know that I choked up a little as I sang it.
Anyone with small persons in their lives or who just need a simple, soothing, song to unwind and breathe in and out to – here we go, I hope you enjoy it. It was made with a hell of a lot of love.
@erebortrash – breathe in, breathe out.

*hugs and strokes your hair*
I’ve never listened to any of the songs of Sansûkh because i have, like, horrific second-hand embarrassment when it comes to singing being done by anyone who’s not like, “officially appointed” to do it (i.e. “amateur recordings” vs. Britney Spears or whatever). But hhghsjdghskdj that was a mistake bc i’m re-reading the fic rn and so I gave in and listened to the famed Iron Hills song at the appropriate place and godDAMN IT’S SO GOOD. I CRIED. I’M STILL CRYING. HOW DID YOU DO THAT, HOW
omg aaaaah thank you so so much!!! I am THRILLED you like it! I hope you enjoy the new song in the next chapter as much – it’s easily the most complicated and ‘professional’ one I’ve ever done.
(I am a performer, a singing teacher and a musician, that… may be part of the ‘how’ 😉 my recording and eq skills are pretty amateurish tho!)
