Gimris gets Gimizh and co. to visit some of her patients at the hospitals/clinics. Especially the ones who don’t get many visitors. Frerinith is especially popular because tiny kid cuddles. He

(I think your ask got cut off, Nonnie!!)

Gimizh likes the healing quarters. His mum… keeps letting him come back, god help her. Even after what happened last time. And the time before that

(gurneys are not meant to do wheelies. Bouncing on the beds ‘to test them’ is not a great idea. Also, a first step might have been making sure that the said beds were unoccupied.)

Frerinith looooves it. Lollies and sweets and cuddles and being told he is a good sweet little thing. And in grand toddler tradition, he is always extra-bossy and stubborn afterwards. NO bread. NO fruit. No! Cake! Cake! Cake! Cake now, cake now!! NO bread, cake! CAKE! Mummy, CAKE!

(Orla is gritting her teeth – but keeping it low and chill and calm – and waiting for this stage to be over with bated breath. I speak from experience!)

Balinith loooves the hospital too! But he’s more of a ‘follow Gimris around and ask a zillion questions’ type – and when she shoos him away he goes around and asks the patients, and also probably reads their notes bc why put them right there if you didn’t want anyone to read them? Also the linen cupboards are fab. All the sheets are SOOOOO smooth and nice all piled up in big piles, smelling really clean.

Wee Thorin pretends he doesn’t enjoy Gimizh’s hijinks, that he’s totally only going along with it under extreme duress. That he’s not having fun at all. That he didn’t suggest one or two modifications to the gurneys himself.

This is A Lie :)))

Hello! This is a bit of a random question maybe, but can you tell me roughly when Shared Silence takes place (I love that one so much omg!!)? Like, the present part, not the flashbacks. Is it before the Messenger comes to Erebor and the LotR storyline really starts, or after, or kinda in-between? It would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Nonnie!

Ahalshdjgfajhs thank you so much!! oh my GOSH, you are amazingly kind, I am so so so thrilled you liked it so much!

Yeah, the “present day” stuff happens approximately two years before the Ring War. So, 3017 TA or so.

GOSH I CAN’T TELL YOU HOW MADLY I AM SMILING RIGHT NOW, oh my god you made my night, thank you SO SO SO MUCH

Frerinith is really the only not salty-natured person in his family. He’s a little sugar donut in a box of salted nuts.

AWWW c’mon Nonnie! they’re all a mix of both sweet and salt! Frerinith is a bossypants and can throw epic tantrums when he doesn’t get his way, after all (yellooooo, toddlers). Wee Thorin is the softest soft on the inside, behind all the sighs and eyerolls. Balinith is a sensitive little soul, and sees bloody near everything. he’s the first to notice when someone is low. Orla is the warmest-hearted woman, god, is she ever. That cool, stern exterior is just that: exterior. And Dwalin… well.

Frerinith is the most outwardly sunny, certainly! Happy chirpy lil thing.

So it’s Dwalin and Orla’s wedding anniversary, and the Dwalinuls make a cake for the (small) party, supervised by Dori. It’s a kind of ugly cake – the pan was put in weirdly, so the cake is lopsided. The icing job is atrocious; Wee Thorin tried spelling out ‘happy anniversary’ but ran out of room. Fortunately, it tastes pretty good. And Bombur made other food, which looked and taste d great,

PFFFT

but I bet it tasted lovely!!!

Wee Thorin has to do a family tree for school and it is full of pain and angst when he has to ask his parents about it. Also very awkward. The accompanying drawings of the extended family are like 35% guesswork even after Wee Thorin asks every relative he has because the most of older people died so very long ago.

OW

OW OW OW OW

Oh OW

Dwalin can fill in some of it. Gloin tries as well. It’s a good thing that old tapestry is still knocking about… but Dweris’ family is a mystery lost to time and war, and the only thing that is remembered about Farin’s spouse Ganois is that they were a painter. The tree is missing so many of its branches.

(For the record, Dweris’ mum was named Gweris, and she was a swordsmith. Her father was Delor, a fletcher – but no records about them survived. Not one.)

oh, and Orla will not speak of her family bc GIANT SPOILERS

Imagine itty Wee Thorin, tied into his high charge, all chub a cheeks and baby-hair Mohawk. Scowling away as he sucks at his sippy cup. Going -grumble grumble- I hate baby shoes in his head, trying desperately to get them off. And Dwalinuls is always trying to get the shoes on. They were a present from Dori or Dis, and are tiny knitted cute things.

HAAAAAAAAHAHAHA

I am imagining Wee Thorin doing the ‘I HATE HATS’ thing, as well… so many older babies/toddlers go through a stage of ‘GETTIT OFF MEEEEEEEE’ lmaaaaao

Dori keeps doggedly knitting things, nevertheless. He’s not about to be defeated by someone less than 1 foot tall!!

Gloin totally went on and on to Dwalin about how awesome he thought Mizim was when they were first married. Dwalin was so done. Then when Dwalin was a newlywed and was gushing about Orla to Gloin (as much as Dwalin can gush), Gloin was like /revenge!!!/ Mizim and Orla were all *eye roll*

Awwwwww Nonnie ❤

My Gloin is something of an epic romantic! Poorly hidden under his beard and his grumpiness, there beats the heart of a SECRET SOFT GOOEY MARSHMALLOW

so I also think he’d be all, ‘Awww, Dwalin’s so happy. Look at him, bein’ happy. ain’t it marvellous, ain’t it a marvellous thing, isn’t it a wonderful day… tell me again ‘bout how you made her that new set o’ steel wristcuffs?’

(Mizim, meanwhile, would totally be showing Orla her bow.)
