Dwalin is the epic-est sleeptalker to ever sleeptalk. He has the craziest sleepytime adventures, very few of which make sense. Fili and Kili once timed him yell at Thorin for taking a wrong turn for twenty minutes straight – they heard him yelling from across the house. He sleepwalks too – whoever was on watch on the Quest had to corral him back into his bedroll on occasion. Dwalin denies everything. Balin saw it as his brotherly duty to get Orla some earplugs before she married his brother.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

(I am especially loving the earplugs. I can just imagine it. “Balin, what…”  “Just. Trust me. You’ll thank me, lass.”)

Baby Freninith is the cuddliest toddler to ever cuddle. No one is safe from his demands of “up!.” He is notorious for sitting in the laps of people who are chairing meetings and just chilling, sucking his thumb or a toy, refusing to get off. Dwalin absent-mindlessly cuddles his youngest whenever this happens. Orla mostly ignores it, except for making sure Frerinith doesn’t fall or hurt himself. Dain judiciously uses the kid as a prop to discomfit people in Council or at Court he doesn’t like.

I can imagine Orla, face impassive as always, giving a blistering dressing-down to some insubordinate soldiers while Frerin chews happily on a braid, tucked in the crook of her arm. 

Dain would probably pretend to ‘consult’ the little one in his lap. “Now, what d’you think? Think it’s the same proposal as last year? Aye, me too. Think we should send the silly trade deputation packing? All right, you’re the boss. You heard him, lads. Out you get – an’ get more creative next time!”

CUDDLEBUNNY FRERINITH. 

I’m a really bad artist (like stick figures are the extent of my talent) and I always have been. I’ve been reading a lot of tutorials and practicing a lot to try to get better (glacial progress, but I’m hopeful). I wanted to know if you would mind me drawing a few dwarves/dwarrowdams or other OCs from Sansukh (especially Orla, love her!)? I don’t know if I’ll post them, honestly I’m choosing dwarves because I love LOTR & The Hobbit and it’ll be easier to stay focused working on something I like.

I’m HUGELY impressed, you’re working so hard! That’s amazing, you’re amazing. You may ABSOLUTELY use each and every character in the fic. I would be so honoured!

Do you have any fancasts of your original characters?

Oooooh, good question, Nonnie. 

When I think up a character, I don’t really consider their facial features in much depth, to be honest. I concentrate far more on other attributes, such as relationships, behaviour, personality, likes and dislikes. Sometimes a prominent physical characteristic gets in there if it is relevant to who the character is (Barur’s giant moustache, Loni’s height, Jeri’s green beard) but mostly, I paint them in very broad strokes.

That said, there are a couple of actors who I consider very close to the characters! Perhaps only the hair or eye colour differs. No beards, unfortunately. They could all play the roles (in some cases, under a LOT of Dwarven padding and gear. Dwarven body ratios *headdesk*)

I read a hugging headcanon that described Ori as “your personal koala” and I am pretty sure that is 100% accurate. Except here he’s just Bifur’s personal koala, so back off.

You know things are getting serious with Bofur and Gimris cos Bofur’s not got his hat on. Bom-chikka-wow. (I enjoyed drawing Gimris’s hair).

Even Badass Warriors get tired, especially when they have a newborn baby. Would Orla and Dwalin own cushions? I have no idea. Still not really settled on a mental image for Orla sorry Orla.

Oh my GOSHHHSHHH how adorable are Bifur and Ori, just so warm and comfortable and YES Ori the Koala, and Bofur and Gimris YOU LOVELY DORKS ohhhh they look so happy, they just laugh all the time, and lajshdflajshfdlaj Dwalin and Orla i know that feel, catching a snuggle while the baby is FINALLY sleeping and OH

Maybe Dwalin spends several years after BOTFA just -not dancing- because there are too many sad associations with Thorin, Fili, & Kili. But he does dance a bit with Orla – mostly quiet ones (by dwarf standards). And he’ll occasionally let his kids drag him into a faster one. Though couple’s/group dancing is a Big Thing for dwarves.

*falls over and wibbles a bit*

I bet Dwalin and Orla make people a bit apprehensive at first when they go out onto the square – and then they’re so gentle and quiet with each other, it’d be a bit off-putting, hee.
