So I was going through old stuff and got the impression that Thorin and Dwalin have exchanged Dark-names but Thorin and Dis haven’t?

Oh, Thorin and Dis did… eventually. But it took until Ered Luin, and some semblance of stability. Dis was expecting Fili at that time, and she was clinging to her brother quite hard. There was a lot of drama going on (because of her relinquishing her place in the succession, and now expecting… what would happen to the baby?) and everyone was very tense and unhappy.

But Thorin cared for her, reassured her – was the best Big Bro ever, in essence. And she pressed her head against his and finally told him what she was made of. And he smiled and received that name with love, and gave his in return.

There were a few tears, that night.

~is on anon due to shyness~ i’ve got 2 questions hun: 1- who is the dwarfling? I don’t follow. 2- I REALLY LOVE SANSUKH and there might be a chance I’ll be working as a translator someday, and I do realise you have like, a little team of people who organise the podfic and stuff, so I really wanted to know if anyone’s already volunteered to translate Sansukh and side-fics to portuguese. If not, well, I volunteer…

Hey Nonnie! Don’t be shy, I am a tiny dork lady in a big fuzzy red dressing gown.

1. The Dwarfling is the online nickname somebody (can’t remember who? Might have been either notanightlight or flukeoffate, who are both amazeballs and wonderful) gave to my baby. I let on that I was pregnant last year, when I was about 13-14 weeks along. And within seconds the name ‘Dwarfling’ had been pinned on my bub, and so there we go!

(She is nearly a year old now! Her first birthday is the end of this month. She can crawl and cruise and ‘high-five!’ and we have ‘HI!’ complete with a little wave for a first word. She is entirely beautiful and wonderful and a brave, curious, clever, loving little soul. I am prouder of her than I can ever say.)

2. Wow! That’s an amazing offer, Nonnie! I am so so grateful and HECK – so excited! I will very thankfully take you up on that offer, if that’s okay by you – there are translations into Italian and Chinese thus far, but not Portuguese!

Jeri stood up and took
a deep breath, trying in vain to stop a grin spreading over their
cheeks too much – they didn’t want to give it away. Genild and Beri
were sitting with their hands clasped in their laps and looking at
their child expectantly; Jeri could tell their amad was annoyed at
being made to wait. Ever since they had informed both of them that
they had some news to tell that evening, Jeri had been unable to
concentrate at work, willing time to speed up until past dinnertime.

“Spit it out!”
Genild exclaimed, almost falling off the end of the chair.

It wasn’t staying
hidden for very much longer.

“How would you both
feel,” they began, “about being grandmothers?”

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Jade I am squealing like an idiot at the screen, AHHHH GENILD, BERI, GRANNIES BABY AHHHHHH

Thank you so so much!!

Well, Bomfris can probably rest easier about her hair because a lot of people experience more hair growth during pregnancy because hormone changes.

I remember! My hair has never looked so good, gdi. A small point of comfort when the rest of me was a general disaster area of aches and nausea 🙂

It was really disconcerting about 8 weeks after the baby arrived, because it all started falling out in massive big tangles, lol. Brushing my hair was an adventure for a while there!

I will be using some of the lesser-known aspects of pregnancy to tell Bomfris’ experience! The hair is definitely one of them!

What if lady!Gimli and legolas get elven married after the battle of helms deep in edoras and gimli doesn’t realise she’s pregnant till the week before Aragon’s wedding and she has to see her family from Erebor but none of the mirkwood elves save for some of the courtiers come. Legolas finds out after gimli freaks out and explodes at him and proceeds to panic as well. They have to hold off on visiting the caves and fangorn and begin researching how to parent in the archives of gondor

OH MY GOSSSSSH NONNIE WRITE THE THING I WOULD READ THE FUCK OUTTA THAT

(I reeeeeally like that she would actually figure it out – symptoms can be freakin obvious and in some cases delibitating – and they would actually have to prepare themselves, with all the building anticipation, fear, excitement and uncertainty that involves. And I can attest to the panicked research side of it. Ohmigosh, yes. I read a lot of pregnancy and birth books!)

I read a fic once kind of similar to that called “Fortune presents gifts not according to the book” by telegramsam on ao3, except Gimli gives birth Rivendell. You’ve probably already seen it, but if you haven’t check it out it was quite good!

It’s on my reclist, actually! That is an awesome series.

But I would be interested in seeing a fic where we don’t discover the pregnancy right at the last moment. You know, seeing the whole experience – from discovery at five-to-seven weeks, right up to the big event. There are 40+ weeks involved in a pregnancy that aren’t birth. I’d love to see how Gimli and Legolas would deal with them!
