I like to bind books by hand. I’ve been trying to work on a program to print out signatures from fic. I like to have a little fan fic in my bag that doesn’t need batteries. Can I have permission to make a set for you and me? It will probably take a year or so.

oh

my

GOD

YES? YES ABSOLUTELY? YES, AND THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH????? THANK YOU FOREVER, THANK YOU ETERNALLY AND FROM EVERY SINGLE CELL IN MY BODY!!!

Technically it’s just as “illegal” to sell fanart prints, it’s just that fans do it anyway, and a lot of the time the big companies don’t see/notice the transactions taking place and/or decide it’s not taking a cut out of their profits so eh why not let them do it.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh gotcha. That makes sense! Thanks for clearing up my confusion!

And now that you mention it, I have seen artist friends get their fanart yanked off their redbubble and the like. So sometimes the big companies do get narky about fanart… which, considering how obscenely rich they are, seems amazingly mercenary. Bleh to them, anyway.

I doubt they’d let a book with ~600,000 words slide either, somehow. I don’t want to risk it, I have too many responsibilities to think of!

So, personal copies of Sansukh ONLY it must be, either printed as gifts for no recompense, or made for your own enjoyment 🙂

Have you ever thought about printing Sansûkh into a physical book? I would kill for one😍

I have thought of it! And folks have asked before, also, check the ‘printing’ tag on my blog 🙂

Believe me, Nonnie, I would love love LOVE to own an actual, physical book of Sansukh. In a way, it would make all of these words tangible to me, to have holdable, touchable, weighable proof of all this hard work and years of my time and effort. I mean, sometimes I don’t believe I’ve really written that much, it doesn’t seem real. I think it’d make it real for me.

There’s a problem, though: LOTR is within copyright, which rests in part with the Tolkien Estate Ltd, MGM & Warner Bros.

If I made Sansukh into a book, I would have to do so for my own enjoyment, and I wouldn’t be able to produce it for others in exchange for money to recoup my costs, basically.

:/

You can use lulu.com or bookpatch to print books p cheap, by the way. But they have a maximum of around 800 pages per book… so I’d have to split Sansukh into 3 parts.

Well, if JRRT can do that, so can I I guess!

Here’s a big headscratchy question, however: WHAT WOULD I CALL EACH BOOK?????  hmm. Here’s me riffing off the top of my head… they may suck, but idk, it’s all I can think up in ten minutes or so.

SANSUKH BOOK 1: THE HALLS OF MAHAL (ch1 – 20)

SANSUKH BOOK 2:

ONE WHO SEES CLEARLY

(ch21 – 36)

SANSUKH BOOK 3: THE FORGING OF HOPE (ch37 – 50)

(plus the Appendices, I guess idk)

Hi there Dets! I can’t believe the Dwarfling is two and a half already, how did that happen? She sounds like an absolute ray of sunshine and I’m so happy for your little family! ♥ On another note, I saw that anon talking about printing out Sansukh – totally planning on doing that as well and then finally reading the whole thing (Idk if you’d remember, but I’m the anon from a while ago who said she’d been waiting since chapter 30 for the story to be finished before continuing haha) 1/2

I just wanted to make sure you’re okay with that though? I’m not planning on selling it, of course. Sending so much love your way for all the work you put into this huge project ♥♥ 2/2

Hey Nonnie! *Hugs*

I KNOW, where did the time go??? She was a baby three seconds ago, I am sure of it! And now she can say ‘i love you, Mummy’ and ‘Mummy, can I banana ‘Rozen yoghurt pleeeeeeaaaase!’ and ‘X is for Xyra-phome, Y is for YACHT!’

(she can’t quite say xylophone. She also has trouble with the letters F and V, lmao)

Yes, absolutely! I am totally overjoyed for anyone to print it out for their own use, COMPLETELY so. ❤ I hope it brings you much enjoyment, Nonnie!

Hey Dets, so I don’t think I’m alone in planning to print a personal book version of Sasuksh (even if it’s going to be like five volumes plus Appendices … so much paper….) (it’s just that my eyes can’t handle always reading on a screen and gosh darnit it *DESERVES* to be a book!) anywho after the semi-recent ask concerning a forward, I can’t help but wonder if there’s a name besides determamfidd you’d prefer as the author? I mean determamfidd IS a pen name, but idk I’m just curious?

hey there, Nonnie!

awwww, I am so honoured! Thank you FOREVER, and I hope it brings you lots of hours of enjoyment ❤ (i knowwwww, so much paper, augh)

nah, ‘determamfidd’ is fine, thanks! I’m not comfortable with using my RL name on fanfic 🙂

ultrafacts:

Printed in the late 16th century this small book from the National Library of Sweden is an example of sixfold dos-à-dos binding, where six books are conjoined into a single publication but can be read individually with the help of six perfectly placed clasps. This particular book was printed in Germany and like almost all books at the time is a religious devotional text.

@determamfidd please take a moment to imagine: the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit, The Silmarilion, and Sansukh. I am imagining it, and it is a beautiful thing.

I can’t even imagine it, it’s just too gorgeous for my imagination to handle

Print!Anon here again! I wanted to say a few things- 1. Thank you for giving permission to print a personal copy, that’s so kind! I’ll be able to read it forever wherever I want. 2. A huuuuge thank you for the text-only PDFs, that will make everything easier. 3. THANK YOU FOR THE NEW CHAPTER!!!! It was masterful and amazing and the build-up was fantastic! I can’t believe the end is nigh but I can only imagine how glorious you’ll make it! You are literally the best!

*hugs the Nonnie* No worries, Nonnie, I am so happy I could help! AND ;AKSDGFLSADHFA; I AM ALSO SO THRILLED AND HAPPY THAT YOU LIKED THE NEW CHAPTER AHHH – i really and truly mean it, from the bottomest bottom of my heart. This chapter kicked my butt from Mordor and back, and just. NNGGGH. *happy tears* I am so SO happy that you enjoyed it!!!

So I saw this mentioned in one post you reblogged but I wanted to make sure: when Sansûkh is finished, would you be ok with people finding a way to print out a copy in book format to stick with other Tolkien stuff? As far as I’m concerned, this is canon! But it’s ok if this isn’t cool, I wouldn’t want to do anything against your wishes.

Hey there, Nonnie!

What an amazing compliment omg *fans face* Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Yes, I am absolutely thrilled for people to print out Sansukh in book form, for their own personal use! I know that not everyone can read from a backlit screen for such a long time, and it’s nice to feel the weight of a physical book 🙂

I do have to stress two things, however: 1. it REALLY cannot be done for profit/distribution, it should be done for personal use only. I am (understandably, I think!) quite scared of the labyrinthine US/UK/AUS copyright laws, and I am fairly skint. I don’t want to get myself or others into any trouble! And 2. if you are intending to reproduce work other than my own – such as the Appendices or any artwork, then getting the artists’/author’s permission is the right thing to do.

I personally ask every artist if I can embed their work, and link back to their original tumblr post, every single time – though there are a couple of artists who have given blanket permission to me, which is super generous of them. Don’t be hesitant to approach them, they’re all lovely A++ people!

If you’re looking for a clean copy of the fic, I will be updating the text-only PDF files, to be found at the top of this page!

Thank you, Nonnie! *hugs* holy heck, you’re so kind ahhhhhhh…!

hardcover book anon again and oh gosh I would never sell it! Its going to be my treasure, my precioussssss *Smeagol’s voice* If you don’t really mind, of course, its your work and I admire you and your love and dedication to our fandom. Its just your fic put me out from a really bad place and I just love it so so much. You are an amazing person. Thank you so much for this precious gift that is Sansûkh! :)

I don’t mind at all, Nonnie – I am very flattered! And thank you so so much, you’re SO generous, what a beautiful thing to say! ahhh, you make me blush lsjdhgflajshdakh

When you finish Sansûkh I’ll print it and I’ll make it an awesome hardcover book because your fic is perfect and deserve it ma’am (if you allow me, of course). Your fic changed my life. (And look! I have my clothes on! :D)

(I appreciate your lack of nakedness, thank you Nonnie 😉

And thank you so much for your beautiful words! I am thrilled you like it so much, that just makes me SO happy. *hugs* THANK YOUUUUU

Absolutely you may make a personal book of Sansukh! If I may add a teeny stipulation – it would have to be for your own consumption, though! No copies for others, PARTICULARLY not for profit. I don’t want Warner Bros, New Line or the Tolkien Estate coming after me with big big lawsuits!!
