YESSSSSSS I LOVE THIS HEADCANON!!!!

Like so much so that I’ve got the url ‘aroboromir’ saved.

Like gosh this is a wonderful headcanon. Aroace Boromir who always supported Faramir in everything, including his silly boyhood crushes, though he didn’t really get what the big deal was all about. Aroace Boromir who began to feel pressure from his father about marrying and continuing the family line, and felt uncomfortable about the prospect of it. Aroace Boromir who secretly always wanted kids (he would have made an AMAZING dad tbh, way better than Denethor ever was) though he couldn’t really idealize who he’d want them with.

Aroace Boromir who is so reminded of little kids by the hobbits (even though technically they were pretty much the same age as him) and immediately grows attached to them, especially Merry and Pippin. Aroace Boromir who disregards Aragorn at first, since he’s both Isildur’s heir AND he never shuts up about his stupid romance with Arwen, geez, it’s not THAT big of a deal man. Aroace Boromir who is deeply troubled while in Lothlorien because of just how deep Galadriel looked into his mind – she saw everything, including his confusion about why he doesn’t feel the same way about romance and sex as everyone else, and he feels laid bare by all the feelings he’d been repressing until then.

Aroace Boromir who waxes poetic about Gondor all the time, loving his country and his family more than anything else. Aroace Boromir who dies defending those who he saw as his children and his friends, aroace Boromir who dies full of love for the Fellowship and for his country, aroace Boromir who never truly discovered who he was. AROACE BOROMIR, GUYS. MY BEAUTIFUL SON WHO DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER, MY BEAUTIFUL AROACE SON.

#I AM SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS#i accept this in my bones#aroace boromir who cares so deeply about the ones he loves and KNOWS that he loves#he just doesn’t love in the way people seem to expect of him#he probably tries to at first#but finds there is no love greater than the love he holds for his family#his little brother#his country#and he values relationships so deeply#and yet he fears it is never enough#because he doesn’t feel that love that faramir cried about for weeks#or the love he sees in aragorn’s eyes when he speaks of arwen#and it scares him and angers him#because he loves with his whole heart and soul#and his love is just as valuable#and he would lay down his life for his dear hobbits#for his countrymen for his friends for his brother for his king#and that is enough#I AM SO EMOTIONAL ABOUT THIS (via brandybuckpuck)

Hey followers (all of you)

A bit about the OP: I’m a non-binary trans femme of colour living in the UK, and I’m a writer!

Also, if you didn’t know, and you probably don’t because I haven’t really talked about this on tumblr, I’m the Editor for a magazine/blog type deal that is made up by articles and submissions from non-binary people within the UK. It’s called beyondthebinary.co.uk and has a pretty snazzy layout if I say so myself – check out a couple of screenshots here:

I’m looking for non-binary writers, artists, and other people who might be interested in submitting or contributing to the website in September (and of course, going forwards!). We’re looking for any sort of writer, on any topic (check out the wealth of topics we have on the site – from interviews, opinion articles, comics, reviews, etc.!) from any ability!

Short pieces, long pieces – we’d love to show the diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and voices that the non-binary community in the UK and abroad has.

Here’s what you can do!

  • Please read the Submissions Guidelines – you just have to be non-binary, living in the UK, or a non-binary PoC from anywhere in the world, and want to write or submit artwork! (Wordcount: under 2k)
  • Send your piece to beyondthebinaryuk@gmail.com with your name you’d like to be credited under, a sentence about you, and a picture!

Please share this and consider submitting, or let people know who you think might be interested!

Thanks 🙂

Reblogging for the evening people!

Someone being trans should not fucking factor onto ur attraction to them. If it does it’s bc u have some transphobia to unlearn and it has nothing to do with them being trans. Bc TRANS. IS NOT. A GENDER.

Please Vote Here!

Hey everyone! I was asked to design and sew a custom Itty Bitty for Hallmark, and my design is now up for vote! I would really, really appreciate your support. The Itty Bitty with the most votes will be put into production and sold, which is a huge dream of mine.

It’s important to me that every kid who walks into a toy store is able to find something that is representative of/relatable to them, and this is my small effort into making that a reality.

You can vote once a day for one design per device (phone, tablet, computer, etc) which is a really, really difficult choice, (I love so many of them!) for the next 16 days, and I would love your support to make my mermaid dreams come true.

There are no bonuses or incentives for winning except that little kids (and big kids) all over the country would be able to have something I made.

Photo credits go to the lovely people at think.make.share.

Any kind of signal boost would also be really lovely of you! ❤

Thank you!

PLEASE VOTE for Han’s amazing little mermaid! Not only is she SUPER DUPER CUTE, but diversity really matters – something I personally find really important in children’s toys and media!!

You can vote EVERYDAY!

Nothing is required to vote. Just go to the site and click to support this awesome toy.

we can’t let this beautiful toy (642 votes)

lose to this piece of crap (1,986 votes)

Y’all, currently this little police officer or whatever it is has TWICE AS MANY VOTES as our little mermaid.

I never ask for stuff like this but…I will encourage you to help fill the world with diversity and beauty instead of white police officers.

You might enjoy the book “Everyone Here Spoke Sign Language,” about the island of Martha’s Vineyard when a large portion of the population was D/deaf. As you headcanon for Dwarvish society, everyone was a fully integrated member of the community, hearing or not. (Re: teaching, I don’t know about Iglishmek, but ASL’s structure is actually very different from English, so signing and speaking at the same time is hard- I admire those who can!)

Ahhhhh I did not know that! Now my admiration for Sofya has tripled – she can speak and sign simultaneously!

Thank you for the recommendation – it sounds amazing, and absolutely something I would love to read. Thank you Nonnie!

Do you have any blind/deaf/mute born Dwarven headcanons?

Phew, okay Nonnie!

Please note: I am both sighted and hearing. I am not a part of the deaf/HOH community, nor am I vision-impaired. I would like to support these communities, not foster misconceptions and prejudices. Though I do try not to, I may misstep, and for that I am sorry. If anyone from these communities would like to chime in, correct me, or add to these ideas, I would be overjoyed to read it.

One of the things we have from canon that I absolutely love is that Dwarves have a sign-language that is universally known throughout their entire society – hearing or otherwise. This is something that we as humans really ought to emulate, I feel! There’s no communication barrier for any Dwarf who is deaf or mute, none at all.

I actually headcanon the great craftsman Telchar as deaf. I think he preferred not to speak, as he had something of an atypical voice, and used Iglishmek as his primary means of communication.

For deaf and HOH Dwarves who do still wish to use speech as a primary form of communication, horns such as Oin’s could be used. There might also be ear-trumpets that can be worn on the head, leaving the hands free: Dwarves are so mechanically clever, I don’t see why such things wouldn’t be investigated.

Blind and visually-impaired Dwarves might have a better stone-sense than sighted Dwarves, and therefore would be superior cavers and spelunkers. I feel that service animals would be an option for these Dwarves, too: goats, pigs, even small portable nimble burrowing creatures such as ferrets might be trained. Ravens too – very desirable as a service animal due to their speech abilities and their intelligence – but with an unfortunate fixation on carrion!

I don’t think there would be the emphasis on ‘special education’ units that there is in our world, holding these Dwarves apart from mainstream education. I think it would be entirely integrated. It would make sense for a teacher to sign in Iglishmek at the same time as speaking. It would make sense for Dwarves to have physical and touchable examples of concepts, being such an artisan race. Also – Cirth runes were preferred by Dwarves because they were easier to carve. Carved runes would be readable by hand, with practice… I think?

Anyway, there’s some ideas, Nonnie!

I keep noticing that you refer to sensory stimuli for Balinith. Does he have a kind of sensory processing disorder or autism? I’m curious, and I may have missed it somewhere. Thanks for all the lovely writing! I do enjoy your stories. Have a nice week.

HI Nonnie! Yes, Balinith has Aspergers Syndrome, an autism spectrum condition. It’s mentioned both in the fic, and in the notes at the end of Chapter 30. Here’s the relevant section:

Hey, speaking as someone with an AS diagnosis, it’s called Asperger Syndrome. 🙂 (And it was actually phased out in the DSM-V; it’s been subsumed into autism spectrum disorder now, just varying degrees of severity.)

Thank you for the info!

HI Nonnie! Yes, Balinith has Aspergers Syndrome, an autism spectrum condition. It’s mentioned both in the fic, and in the notes at the end of Chapter 30. Here’s the relevant section:

Orla Longaxe paced, her great tail of wiry black hair sweeping behind her, as the booms and shudders rocked the Mountain. The noise was deafening, and though every door in the room was closed and packed tightly with cloths, it still echoed in the walls and under her feet. In her arms, her second-born son shivered and shook. His eyes were unfocused, and he was frowning and pressing close to her chest. His ears were covered with a dark woollen hat, pulled down low nearly to cover his eyes as well.

In the corner, a little puff of steam came from a great iron pot which bubbled away softly, the vaguely soothing sound meant to combat the rattling thunder of the boulders striking the mountainside over and over again.

Balin could not bear loud noises for long.

Orla tucked her son’s head closer to hers, protectively wrapping her hand over his wool-smothered ears. Balin sucked in a breath, his hands clenching and unclenching rapidly and spasmodically, and pressed his face against his mother’s neck to hide his eyes from even the very modest light that came from the fire. Her boy was cut from a different stone, as they called it: his thoughts worked in a special and singular way. Many of the greatest works of their people had been made by Dwarrows born with minds like Balin’s, their focus as determined and passionate and as single-minded as a blade. She was prouder of him than she could possibly say. Balin was fascinated by the way things worked, by nature and first causes and the pressures under the earth and the creatures that crawled upon it. He would be a great Dwarf, his mother knew.

However, there were difficulties that came hand-in-hand with these unique gifts. Balin was clumsy at times, he occasionally lost his words, he did not enjoy company other than his parents or his friends, and he could not tolerate loud noises or bright lights. The overstimulation was uncomfortable, and sometimes painful.

Thank you, Nonnie! I am so happy you like the story – I wish you a wonderful week as well!
