okay heads up minor fangasm over the Sansukh podfic
because okay for y’all new folks I’m a synesthete? what that means for me hard to explain exactly but like…for me music and (spoken) words have color? and things like voice and tone and pitch are huge when it comes to audio-only things and is the biggest reason I don’t do audio books. if the colors don’t work right the whole thing is ruined for me. I can’t listen to some music because the colors, even though they work, kinda make me sick (the Winter Solider theme in a perfect example of that) though generally speaking if the color goes wonky in a piece of music it’s probably supposed to. lemme tell ya the Mirkwood theme in the Hobbit is kinda freaky.
and this podfic. this first chapter of this podfic nailed every single freaking color. when I hear “Thorin” it’s darkish midnight blue with streaks of metallic pale silver (from the “-in”). in the fic? Thorin is darkish midnight blue with silver. “FrIs” is a warm golden reddish (like honey in firelight) and every single line fit that color. Frerin is more gold than red and the gold is metal like with Thorin and again, podfic nailed it and Kíli’s slightly skyish blue with green and Fíli’s pale sun yellow and–
I can’t begin to describe how fangirly I am over this okay. this doesn’t happen
(ALSO I SO KNEW DETS WAS GONNA BE MAHAL I FREAKING CALLED IT)
Awww I am so glad that the colours all work for you!! (and fingers crossed they do for the other characters as well!) because that must be incredibly frustrating if they don’t!
Right now I have no doubt they will. This is so freaking exciting like I’m serious this does not happen. I can’t wait for more chapters.
Gosh, this sounds so cool! I’m curious to hear how the other voices are for you!
That sounds utterly spectacular when you describe it! :’>
Thror is really freaking difficult because the name doesn’t feel complete to me? but the name’s darker black-blue with a sudden shock of goldish orange right at the end which thinking about it may be why it feels incomplete XD voices don’t have the sudden shocks of color because they’re usually flowing more. music does! but not voices, so there’s no orange-gold when I listen and it’s a bit darker, with almost a wooly gray tint to it because the voice is rough.
Thrain’s got the same dark blue that’s not quite the same shade as Thorin (it’s the “thr” sound that does it) and sort of swoops into a lighter shade that turns shiny silver-blue at the end. voices don’t do the swooping though, that’s strictly a thing long A sounds do XD Thrain is also colder (shade wise) than Thorin. hearing Thrain, though, it’s not as cold and the shiny silver-blue takes over from the dark blue, but that happens all the time since voices can’t do gradients like that unless they’re singing. for comparison, movie!Thrain’s voice is a weak shade of yellow, Richard Armitage’s voice is closer to black, Aidan Turner’s Kili voice is a sort of blend of forest green with a dark, steely shade of blue, and Dean O’Gorman’s Fili voice is a sort of…okay this is cliche but lion-pelt gold I swear to god. his normal speaking voice is almost Ayers rock red XD
Ricky’s narration is a neutral grey-white which is of course perfect and literally the only one that doesn’t match at all is Mahal XD Mahal is a sort of…warm, cinnamon-y brown blended with fall leaves orange, word-wise. the modification pulls the voice so far back it’s fuzzy moon-on-grey-cave-stone, think the cave on the island in the first Pirates of the Carribbean move, with the moon shining on the gold? only minus the gold.
